New Wheels Quandary
New Wheels Quandary
Team -
I just added new Avant Garde Ruger Split wheels to my C2S. The Rugers are the agressive, Porsche and Ferrari specific size/offsets. I had intended to port my OEM 235 front, 295 rear Michelin PS2's. It turns out that only the fronts were usable as the rears, due to crazy Porsche camber, were worn deep. The shop put a temporary set of Michelin PS 305 in rear.
So here's my issue... Both the front and rear tires come out further than the body. I'm a middle aged dude and this is not the my idea of an appealing look. The wheels themselves come out almost flush to the vehicle but I understand that Michelin tires run wider than the stated size and each manufacturer varies.
At a minimum I'm going to go back to 295's in the rear but would consider getting new rubber all around to get a more realistic look. I'm not looking for "stretched" per se, but this isn't my cup of tea.
Any thoughts on solving this? Anybody else experience this? How did you correct the issue? Just smaller width or move away from Michelin even though the compounds are awesome?
Hopefully this pics get the point across accurately.
Thanks for any input!

One more update... I spoke with AG and they recommended a max 295 rear Michelin in the rear as Michelin's run very wide. They went further to recommend Pirelli and Conti as narrower tires at the 295 size as Michelin is oversized.
I might have to get new rubber all the way around...

I think it doesn't look bad at all. I've been running 305 in the rear (w/ turbo style wheel, offset ET67) for about 6 six and it was perfect.
I've just switched to new wheels with ET55 yesterday and kept reused the 305s since they are still so new. It looks a tiny bit big but still good. So I might change back to 295 when the 305 is worn out.
What are the sizes for your wheels?

You bought the wrong wheels if you don't like the look of them being flush with the fenders. The ruger splits have a +45 offset in front and a +52 offset in rear. Your Porsche OEM rear wheels have a +67 offset in back so for example even though they are both 19x11 you would've had to put 15mm spacers on the back in order to get the oem wheels to stick out that far.
I wouldn't expect changing tire brands to make a huge difference in looks. Your front 235 looks more stretched now b/c it's on an 8.5" wheel instead of the stock 8" and the rear looks beefier with a 305 on it whereas any 295 would match up better to the slightly more stretched look of the front. There definitely are small differences in tire manufacturers though and it looks to me like the PS2's are as narrow as they come, at least from these manufacturer specs:
Michelin PS2 295/30/19
section width: 11.9"
tread width:11"
Conti ContiSportContact5P 295/30/19
section width: 12.2"
tread width: 11.2"
Pirelli P Zero 295/30/19
section width: 11.9"
tread width: 11.7"
But as you said, perhaps Michelin doesn't exactly follow their specs and they are bigger than stated. Personally I would just get a 295 on the rears and lower the suspension some to get rid of the big fender gaps over the tires. You could maybe add a little negative camber in the alignment too in order to tilt the upper tires inward under the fender lip a little bit more. Otherwise just sell the wheels and get something with bigger offsets closer to stock.

I also read the same thing about the stated specs yet I keep hearing otherwise. I wonder why Michelin would claim inaccurate specs if it is in fact true that they run very wide...
I think your wheels look very nice, and not particularly "edgy." I have a set of GT3 wheels with PS2s on my car now. The wheels are one inch wider than stock in rear, and half inch wider than stock in front. With the Michelins I think my stance is very similar to yours. I know where you're coming from, I would avoid what you say you would avoid, it's just I'm not seeing it with your car (nor with mine).

Thanks for posting. I love your wheels BTW!
What tire and size are you running on the 12" wide rear? I have stock 305 PS2 and looks a bit more stretched than that. Just curious if there's another tire that runs a little wider.
