How does our alarm work?

I know its an immobiliser but i read that it should also have an interior intrusion thingy. I locked my with windows open.... Waited more than a mnute for activation...i put my hand inside, tapped on the steering wheel, banged on the inside door panel....nothing. No alarm no alerts. Is it simply a keyless door entry. I even kicked the tire, nothing! Is there a code that needs activation!

I have a cabrio and if I set the alarm top down and reach in to open center console alarm goes off before I even get to the console, with the annoying VW bug horn, i think tapping on steering wheel or door panel won't do it, also if you open the glove box it will go off.

The alarm motion sensor is under the center console, it's a radar proximity sensor,

you guys cost me a little pride, and taught me a lesson. My son swore up and down that the alarm went off as he reached for the console lid (cab with top down and doors locked). I insisted he had to have reached the lid and began opening it, otherwise the alarm would not have been triggered.

I hate being wrong, but I'm getting used to it.

Radar proximity is NOT motion sensing (in the sense of moving the car). There is no motion sensing on the car alarm - as far as I know. There is detection of intrusion, opening doors (via some non-remote method), or getting in the way of the internal sensor that detects a presence - maybe one could call that motion sensing. But that internal sensor only covers a specific region inside the car.

There is some set of conditions or setting where the internal radar sensing system is disabled, for the purposes of you being able to lock the car up with the windows down, but have a pet or kid stay in the car, lets say. I seem to remember reading about this somewhere.

There is a motion sensor. In order to disable press the lock button on the remote twice in succesion. Page 24 to 25 owners manual...a member told me this in another forum
