I would want some kind of covered parking. Does not have to be a garage.

Did the exact same thing in April! Couldn't wait any longer....bought a 2007 C4S Cabrio, my first P-car, white with blue top/interior in beautiful condition, 18k miles. It has been outside since I don't have a garage, but am currently building one as part of a larger renovation.

Bought the Porsche outside car cover, and put it on religiously. I also live in the bay area. I wash the car every other week, and the cover on the odd weeks, for all of the reasons mentioned previously. The finish seems to be holding up well. I've never regretted the decision, and the car is an absolute dream!

Maybe the bigger picture is that you live in an apartment and you want to buy a Porsche. I think the wise choice is to save your money, buy a home w/garage then maybe you can look into buying something nice to put in it. I not sure how old you are but I was 44 before i bought my first nice car. It was a new MB E430 Sport. Paid cash. But by that time i had a home, savings and an established 401K plan. I know it hard to imagine actually waiting in this world of instant gradification but they will make Porsches well after you take care of life's real priorities. But hey that's me. JMHO. GL with your decision.

What!!! priorities, home, savings, 401-k, wife and children's well being be damned when it comes to purchasing a Porsche!!

I am just kidding of course
You are very wise and patient. Good advice... but man, the Porsche temptation is a powerful one!

so true... bought mine at 28 years old :-)
if that can help me, I bought the house a few months before the P car...

no way I could put a mazda3 2005 in the garage. needed something decent!

if that can help the OP, yes save for later, but life is now too. just find a middle...
you won't lose much value on the P car if you take care of it and don't put crazy millage in it...

The sunny climate poses its own issues. (having lived in southern Louisiana for 2 decades prior).

The UV and related solar exposure will degrade the rubber and synthetic bits prematurely.

Now if this is a daily driver and the car sits outside at home mostly at night, this makes zero difference, since it would still get exposed to all the sun.

Hail, hit-n-run, and limb damage are the primary concerns I have with respect to parked cars.

I wouldn't buy a Porsche if I didn't have a garage. I even get paranoid when I even park it in a parking lot to go out to eat

Buy one. It's not a Veyron or Aventador, it's a $35-45k car, albeit a nice one.

I park mine in the garage and do appreciate having it indoors, but I park my Range Rover on the drive and don't give it a second thought. A cover will obviously help, but so will keeping it clean and waxing it regularly.

Life's too short, enjoy it.

No amount of feedback from the members will ever make sense to you. You want a Porsche....period! Don't make the garage as the excuse of buying or not buying one. Assess your priorities and your dreams.

A Porsche will be treated by some as just a car; others as their prize; others as their queen; a bragging right; a glorified Volkswagen; a step down from a Ferrari; a step up from a Yugo; etc.
Wherever you belong and from where you're coming from will dictate your direction... And it doesn't matter.

Make the decision and hopefully it's the right one for you. GL.

I bought my first "nice" car in my 20s and parked it outside for 2 yrs. drove it in the rain, snow and got it fully detailed every 6 months to try and keep it looking good but the scratches, swirls and rock chips really robbed much of the pleasure from me.

So since then I made sure I had a garage for my "nice cars". Now It all depends on you and your personal circumstances. If this is your one nice car and you sweat the little stuff like swirls, dings and scratches then you need a garage. But for some, a $30K 996 C2 is their daily driver and they park it in the driveway to make room for their 458 and Turbo in the garage.

These cars come nicely wrapped and protected from abroad. For the most parts high end dealerships in my area have parking garages. Additionally, these new cars don't spend too much time parked at dealerships.
