can a navigation module be installed?
Yes. I had mine installed at the dealership (2006 c4). I bought a car on the lot and they added the Cheyenne Nav system and then I took it home. Worked fine.
I recently swapped out my stereo and speakers though, which is much better across the board.

. Have you considered swapping the PCM instead ?
Once you add navigation ($$?), you will still have:
. a suboptimal audio system
. a suboptimal navigation system that cost an arm and a leg to update the maps, and that doesn't have live traffic information and so forth
I, for one, am considering swapping out my PCM (that has navigation). if it wasn't for the couple of set-up screens that are only reachable through the PCM, I would have done it by now!
While the nav is handly, I have it, I use my phone on a suction cup more often as Google maps is right up to date.
I know a large portion of the cost is licensing fees to NavTeq but $350 for a new map disc every 5 years expensive.
The phone? Just data costs if over your plan limit and who does that?

Sorry for the spelling error.
I felt the Nav was weak, and also used my iPhone from time to time.
I just moved to a Pioneer AVEC 8000Nex, Audison Speakers, and an Alpine Amp.
The Pioneer deck will soon support Apple Car Play, which enables the touchscreen of the 8000Nex to become the screen of your iPhone. You won't get access to all your apps, but you will get the main ones you care about such as Phone and Maps.
The sound is dramatically better, and I am only running a Coax Setup.
If you want to keep the standard setup, you can get Nav, but if you have the money, I would pull out the stereo and either add a new head unit, or as I did, a new head unit and speakers/amp to really upgrade things.

FWIW.... I lost the discs for the maps and it would cost me US$XXX to replace. So I got the Dension gateway instead and hooked it up with my old iPhone. Now I have full access to my music library over via 4G and iTunes match, Google maps / Waze, V1 app, answer / make calls on my iPhone 5 via bluetooth.... etc. So even though I have the Porsche's Navigation and Phone module, they have been useless and I don't feel missing anything.
When the next wave of new 3rd party head units are available with CarPlay, I'll probably replace the PCM unit completely.
IMO, adding the original Porsche Navigation option to a car that didn't have it is not worth the huge set up cost, and the cost to getting the updated map.
