Carrera S without Sport Chrono

Will a Carrera S without the Sport Chrono becomes an unattrative car?

yes. big time. Sport chrono is a must. IMO the car is almost worthless without it. I notice a huge difference in performance.

Ditto, I passed up a local car that I could have gotten a discount on and drove 130 miles to another dealer and paid MSRP just to get sport chrono. It's that good!

what is troubling me is that this sport chrono extra (unlike the x51 option) does not boost the hp of the car. It just make the throttle response a bit more sensitive (and the suspension a bit tighter), right? so without it, the car should still runs the same way (except one may have to push the throttle further down)?

its just really different. forget about the stats and all the technical mumbo jumbo. It feels like a completely different car. It is not an experience you should forego. TRUST ME.

It was explained to me that it modifies the car's handling in some ways. I don't know the details but I recall the salesman mentioning something about % of slip angles and that the sport mode allows the tail to be hung out further etc before PASM kicks in and corrects. I also remember reading something about in addition to altering throttle response, it prepares the engine for greater performance. I don't know what that means but maybe it makes some alterations in the engine management system. All I know is that even with my car still in break in mode and driving at way less than max potential, sport mode feels very different. I suppose you could easily forego the package but then you don't get the nifty timer on the middle of the dash that swivels like an eyeball! My kids like that part.

My worry is that, without this option, whether the car's performance and handling will be substantially affected. For example, will a regular carrera with Sport Chrono drives better than a Carrera S without Sport Chrono?

If the default setting is always set to normal rather than sport mode, then does it mean that Porsche AG considers normal mode should be used most of the time and sport mode should only be used for track event.

but aren't they both rated at 355hp?
so with or without the crono, where does the difference lie.
It's really not an expensive option, one should get it.

I figured out the difference once and for all. Are you ready?
Here it goes...

The car is not faster with Sport Chrono.

However, you can drive the car a lot faster with sport chrono.

Therefore, the car is faster with Sport Chrono.

Since this Sport Chrono option is not that expensive, how much more can it add to driving pleasure? It is definitely not something like the x51 option which boost the hp to 381!

Think about it, in addition to the increase of throttle reponse or stiffen the suspension, it also let you play with the lighting or door lock control. Seriously, what does that have to do with track driving?

Sport Chrono IMO is a no brainer. But I wouldnt say that a Carrera S would suffer that much when value is concerned. Ive sold a couple of them without. throw on some coilovers change the airbox and put muffler by-pass pipes on it and you have sport chrono.
