TPC Inactive error message?

I got a TPC Inactive message a week ago. The dealer is charging $1,300 to repair and an indie Porsche shop I was referred to that I've never been to is charging around $500. This is for all four tires and rotating and balancing. I've found a few threads online where people are paying around $600 or so for all four tires from indie shops so I guess I'm in the right ballpark on quotes.

Does anyone know what is involved with this process? They take the wheels off and from there what do they have to do?

You can buy compatible aftermarket TPMS for around $150. Then take tires off rims, install the new TPMS/valve stems and remount and balance tires. Any tire shop can do this.
Probably around $300-$350 all in.
I have the same error right now. Batteries in TPMS are dead. Going to wait until after winter when I buy new tires.

I bought a set of the aftermarkets on Ebay for $145. I went to Americas Tires (SF Bay Area) and they quoted $20 per tire to remove the tire, install the sensor and replace the tire.

I was getting a quote for new tires and they said that they would replace the sensors at no cost, since the wheels were off anyway.

Thanks for the advice, maybe I'll just try a regular tire shop.

So is it TPC sensors or TPMS? Is there a certain model, brand, etc I need to look for that's compatible with year and make of the car?

Replaced my TPMS with OEWheels

I had the same problem over the summer on my 2008 997. At first it was just one wheel that was misreading but after a week or so they were all registering ~4PSI low. Time to replace or code-out the TPMS as there was no way I was going to pay anywhere near dealer prices. I had previously seen other people say TPMS replacements from OEWheels (www.oewheelsllc.com) worked fine and for the price it was worth it. I bought the set they suggested for my car and had them installed when I replaced the tires. Been working great since then.

The item code was: SET-TPMS-TITAN-TT-BE-001-161

Set of 4 cost $136 + $5 shipping

Good luck.

If it were that easy...you'll need a Durametric Pro (or something similar) to disable. Dealers will generally say "no" if you ask them to do it - safety reg concerns.

it is that easy. I have the cable, but just had my indie do it for $70 bucks last time the car was in for perf mods. I cant imagine a dealer not doing this service if a customer requests it, and is willing to pay for the service.
