Same. Getting into first even at a stop requires some finesse at times. Seems common in these cars.

My car has the same issue, I talk to the master mechanic at Porsche and he said "it's normal for these cars". Don't worry about it, when the engine is heated up, your shifting will become a lot smoother.

I have found that as I pull up to a light I depress my clutch once then release. The car has to be completely stopped. . When the light changes to green it will go right into first otherwise it won't until it's warm

As folks have said, it can be difficult to get the transmission into 1st from time to time when the car is stopped. This might have something to do with using steel synchros for the first two gears to increase durability.

With any standard trans car, when rolling, put the trans in neutral, let the clutch out and blip the throttle. Then, immediately push the clutch and move the lever into 1st. This should help reduce the load on the synchronizer.

I have been lucky. No issues with 2nd to 1st on the 997.

Nothing to worry about guys - it is indeed fairly normal behavior for first gear to be a bit difficult to engage at times, either from a stop of a slow roll.

And consider yourselves lucky since the 997 tranny does it a lot less than the 915 tranny.

Same here - problems shifting into 1st. Especially annoying when sitting at traffic light and traffic starts movng again. What works for me is letting off the clutch about an inch and then carefully shifting into 1st.

Regards,

CF

Same here. I always assumed it was normal with these cars, and it looks like I was not wrong.
