Squeaky steering / steering column

Hi all,

My 2006 C2S is developing some squeaky noise when turning the steering wheel to either direction. The noise is not very loud but it's getting more audible or I'm getting more sensitive.

I did some tracing and the noise seems to be coming from the steering column, part #1 from the diagram below.

Has anyone experienced this before? And would this just require some lubrication or replacing the whole steering column?

Thanks.

I have no experience with your car but also try #4area on the bottom chart... that should be the knuckle, a little lube maybe.

Thanks. Actually I did that already but didn't help. And the sound is most likely coming from part #1.

I'll remove the lower dash panel to gain access to it and see if I can find anything.

OP, I have had issues with this on a few of my GM trucks. would it appear
to you, that your steering wheel which affixes/butts up in front of the #7 bolt is an area of noise?

That's where my GM's and several other make cars have done that, and ive
typically sprayed an armor all type product on that area, or removed the steering wheel itself, and used a more permanent rubber conditioner like Adam's VRT.

Vaseline is also excellent for rubber as long as it is in a hidden area as not to see it.

Good luck.

Thanks, Patrick. That's exactly what I'm going to do, as soon as I get the chance to remove the trim panel!
