I'm not but my car is also not my daily driver and I generally try to avoid parking in public places in and around LA (where meter maids run rampant).

I got a front plate ticket the very first day I had my car. In fact the cop whipped around so quick to come get me, I thought there must have been a serious crime happening up the street. I pulled over to let them by, and turned out I WAS THE PERP!

haha. It bummed me out, but in SF I guess it's easier to ticket people for a front plate violation than it is to ping 'em for talking on their cellphones while they're driving.

So, I did two things.
1. Stopped going to SF.
2. Bought a hide-a-plate in case I do have to go into the city.

Problem solved.

No front plate on my wife's 2011 Carrera S cab. She got a fix-it ticket with her 2005 Audi S Cab and put the plate on; $25 to fix, the fine was more like $195. Given how sucky front plates look on an 911, if and when she gets one she'll probably just pay the fine.

$195, ouch...was that a local town cop, CHP, or what..There are 2 towns close that I don't go to unless necessary, they are always pulling people over for "safetyinspections" and use nefarious gimmicks to ticket drivers.

There are no safety inspections in CA any more. So police can't just stop you to have a look. They need to have a violation to stop you then they can have a look at the car. If they just stop a 100% legal car for a safety inspection, file a formal complaint in writing to the Sheriff or chief of police of that department. Our 4th Amendment right has been seriously eroded in the last 15 years and we need to protect our rights.

No front plate would be "probable cause" for a stop, correct?

I do not have a front plate, but have been thinking of picking up a tow hook frame mount just in case. I also don't take the Porsche to LAX, which I've heard is an automatic ticket.

I was considering lobbying my state representative to support a bill that would allow the DMV to issue European format frames. I think I could live with one of those. Then I saw someone driving with one of these and figured someone had beat me to it:

Turned out to be a bootleg, ordered from a company like this.

Seems like more of a LEO target than having no plate at all.

Absolutely right. I see vehicles with, say, expired tags or a brake light out and just hope a) they have current insurance and/or b) they aren't driving drunk cuz otherwise ... BIG trouble!

No front plate. Did get a “fix –it” ticket once. Now I carry the front license plate mounted on the tow hook bracket in the trunk, and if I’m stopped I would tell the CHP that I haven’t put it on yet but plan to as soon as I get home. Sometimes you can get a ticket for no front plate in West L.A. but you just pay the fine, not show proof of fixing it.

I've read others doing the same. They say they are coming back from a concourse event and forgot to put the tow hook mount back on.
