Stuttgart Questions
Hi:
I will be in Germany in early March and I hope to make time to go visit the Porsche Factory in Stuttgart. Any one been there? Any suggestions on what time or day to go, etc.? Any feedback would be great.
Jesse

If you find you can't get a reservation you can try to get in a group with "no-shows". IIRC, they go in groups of 10 and there are no-shows...so show up at the museum front door at opening and let it be known you want to get on a tour...maybe you'll have success that way. Good luck.
The factory tour used to be restricted only to people who bought new Porsches and took advantage of the European Delivery Program. When I visited Stuttgart in 2010, I was able to visit the Porsche Museum and the Delivery Center directly across the street but not the factory tour. I visited again in the fall of 2014 and I was told that factory tours are now possible and open to the public with advanced ticket purchase. Keep in mind that the museum is not open on Mondays when you make your plans.
I highly recommend visiting the Porsche Museum and the Delivery Center. I also recommend renting a Porsche 911 at Avis in Stuttgart and enjoying the unlimited speed sections of the Autobahn!

Visit the Mercedes Museum too - it's fantastic. The last time I was there, I stayed at the V8 Hotel, right by the Mercedes Museum. The V8 is a fun place to have lunch and it has a fabulous collection of cars too.

1.also be sure to visit the Mercedes museum which was built a few years ago ('06)and it is amazing to see -- even if you're not a Mercedes fan.
2. renting a Porsche is a nice idea but try doing a European delivery instead! ( do a Purchase through your local dealer, where you drive it for two weeks in Europe, and take delivery back home, about six weeks later.

I go to Stuttgart twice a year.
I got a factory tour for me and three colleagues last October. The POC someone mentioned above is the same one I used. I did mention that I am a PCA member, don't know if it helped, but can't hurt. I just emailed her and she got right back to me.

The Museum is great. They are closed Monday, but my factory tour was on a Monday.
They now rent Porsche's right in front of the museum and you do get a PCA discount. You can rent for an hour, day or a week.
I wouldn't worry about the time of day.
The S Bahn (train) goes practically to the front door of the Museum/Factory.
Need a recommendation on a place to stay?

Take a look at the V8 Hotel in Böblingen. It's located in a Stuttgart suburb and it's very close to the Mercedes Museum. The V8 is a car lovers dream, and it has a great Italian restaurant as well as a brewery on the property!
Every room is different and has a motorsports theme. My last room was set up like a car wash - it was cool. There is a fantastic display of cars right in the hotel.

Oh man, I have to check that out!
If you want to stay downtown and walking distance to the Koenigstrasse check out Der Zauberlehrling, http://www.zauberlehrling.de/home_e.html
Boutique hotel with themed rooms in a cool little residential area with a great restaurant and walking distance to everything downtown.
