extended warantee..
There are a lot of different aftermarket warranties out there.
I am not well-versed in any of them, but I am of the opinion that most are useless. From what I understand there are all kinds of exclusions...then you hear about all these people who have argued to try and get coverage to no avail.
It may be a better idea to take the 4000 bucks and put it away for a rainy day.
It's a bit of a roll of the dice but you may even come out ahead...
It will be interesting to see what others have to say...

I bought an '06 CS in 11/14 and got a "Platinum Coverage" extended warranty through the dealer covering engine, transmission, front drive, rear drive, steering, front suspension, brakes, seals, gaskets, electrical, air con., etc.. Term 48 mo. from purchase. 60k additional miles. Safe-Guard Products International. I have not had to make a claim yet.
Well, the "useless" policy I had for the -09 C4S paid a total of almost $17,000 in less than a year. That included replacement of the PDK. It was a Toyota/Lexus backed policy. Don't know if it's still available. For the -06 I had a Fidelity Platinum plan which also paid more than I spent on the policy.
Fidelity Platinum is a good policy. It is an exclusion policy- so unless it is specifically excluded it is covered. My car is covered through January 2019 or 109K miles. I will hit the January '19 date for sure. Peace of mind and in the event I sell the car, a terrific selling feature.
There are plenty of aftermarket warranties that will cover P-Cars. We deal with them regularly!
Also, to echo what most have said - Fidelity is the first name that comes up. Just be sure to check their coverage tiers, as some things are omitted depending on how much and what type of coverage you opt for.

Prices do vary depending on mileage. Mine would have been $2,000 per year. So far, I have saved about $4,000.00.
Disclaimer: I do my own mechanical work so parts cost me <$1,000.00
No right-wrong direction here. Go with what you could afford, chances you are willing to take, etc.
Good luck

I personally pass on any extended warranty on anything. I too do my own mechanicals...(most at least). If I were to get one, it would be fidelity as they seem to be more along the mainstream/staple company.
Ive never had any sort of major failure...trans/engine,etc on any high performance car, or any vehicle for that matter even if they have had over 200K miles on them.
