Hello everyone
first let me say it has been awhile (30 years) since I had my last Porsche a 1983 Black 911SC Coupe
And its time for another one only this time a 997 a 2007 or a 2008
If I can afford it maybe a 2009 997.2
Im being kind of picky I want a white S with a manual trans not easy to find
whats with all the black ones ( by the way my last one was black and I loved it just don't want to wipe it off every day again.
My first question is I have been reading about PPI's so I called my local dealer and talked to service and he said they don't do them any more because they got sued so many times.
So who does it in Southern California San Fernando Valley.

You could call Callas motorsport who's in Torrance or TRE in S.Fernando Valley. They have pretty good reputation from the Pelicanparts board.
House Motorsports I believe is in Pasadena and he frequents this board. He's got some reps here too.

After several years owning Aircooled 911s, I recently Purchased a 2005 997. I was looking for Black as well but just couldn't find one. I reluctantly settled for Guards red which seemed rare as well.
I purchased my car from an Audi dealer with 102k miles on the odometer. After visiting the dealership on more than one occasion and thoroughly self inspecting the car I felt comfortable that it was a good deal for the money. I waited til the end of the month and asked them to reduce the purchase price buy $1000.00, they agreeded (end of month is the best time for discounts at dealerships, they wanna close each month with high sales numbers even at the risk of taking a slight lose). I purchased the car with no PPI and no service history from previous owner, I am very satisfied with the car.
I would never suggest that anyone spend a load of money on any car (especially a Porsche) w/o a PPI but I'd say that a PPI is not going to guarantee a trouble free car. All cars can have issues the a PPI may not detect. The best insurance a buyer can have is there own knowledge of the particular car they're buying, combined with a professional PPI and a top notch Extended Warrantee.
If your not buying the best full service used car extended warrantee Which will likely cost you nearly a third or more of the cars purchased price then you are taking a risk and you must be prepared for what comes with unforeseen mechanical failures, moderate or extreme.

Be cautious with the Auto Gallery....not only are they over priced, but they stretch the truth more often then not.
Looked at several cars there when I was shopping and they were not completely honest with the history of the cars I was looking at. My rule has always been if they won't put the car on a lift for me to inspect the underside (then a PPI), then I'm not interested. They would say that their insurance doesn't cover me in the garage....I had the same issue with STA in Sherman Oaks as well (they usually get the cars from Auto Gallery that won't sell).
Either way, I can recommend Performance Plus in Canoga Park...small Indy but specialize in Porsche/Audi/MBZ. Ask for Andrew and say that Mike referred you. They did my PPI and charged $150 with me at their side under the lift.
Good luck...you'll love the 997!

We are an independent Porsche facility in Pasadena, CA -- and we do PPIs for our customers probably about once a week on average. That's mixed in with regular maintenance, brakes, etc - and of course the fun stuff with aftermarket installs!
You can check us out on Yelp below:

I'd definitely recommend getting a PPI done. It's a small price ($295) to pay for such a large purchase. We use factory Porsche PIWIS and PIWIS 2 testers, typically only found in dealerships in order to test the entire ECU and vacuum system. This includes checking for any airbag deployment, checking for over revs, and making sure the electronics are trouble free. Outside of the electronic portion of the car, we do a full physical inspection of the vehicle - including a paint reading on all exterior panels - this allows us to see if there has been any past potential body work/repaint to the vehicle.
Of course, we provide you with a detail report on the entire vehicle upon completion of the PPI, which typically takes a full day of diagnosis and examination. We are fair with both parties, presenting only facts (a lot of times we will have both the buyer AND seller come to the shop and present our findings at the same time - helping create transparency in the buying process.
Here is a short video we have put together with a brief overview of the PPI process:
We are a little bit of a drive from you over in the SFV - but we'd be more than happy to take care of you and your Porsche when you find the one that ticks all the boxes!
Feel free to give me a call personally at the shop if you have any questions!
