Hi all,

Need a little help. I just noticed today that my new Porsche (first one by the way) has this nasty paint chip on the passenger side right underneath the rear quarter window on the flat spot above the rear tire. It kills me because I have only had the car for a couple of weeks. It is in such a noticable spot. It looks like a rock hit it, but it is tough to tell how it happened.

I know it is only a car and this won't be the last one I get, but I like to take care of my cars. (aaargh)

Does anyone know someone reputable in the Southern California/Orange County area that can fix it. I'm thinking all it needs is a little touch up to fill in the missing paint and light color sand and polish. (I hope!)

 

Still looking if anyone can recommend...

When I lived in SoCal I used to take mine to Newport Porsche. That way if they screw it up they're liable to make it right. Just a thought.

 

what color is it? btw, sounds like a possible door ding?

 

It is basalt black. The chips are on the quarter panel right below the small quarter window.

That's where I purchased the car and they gave me the name of the guy they use. He said that he would not make any promises. He said he's a touch up guy and not a repair guy. So I checked out the local body shop that a few people said was the best around, (they do a lot of P cars) but they said that they would'nt promise an exact match either. This is killing me. You would think that someone would be able to fix. Especially in SoCal.

 

Wouldn't promise an exact match? Are you kidding me?

All they do is formulate the sprayouts and match to the car. Takes a little time, but the right people will get it perfect. Keep looking. Ask your local PCA folks for referrals.

 

Good call on the PCA thing Eric. ArnGar, your local PCA president is Garey Cooper, he's on the 6-Speed 996 turbo forum a lot. You could ask him. Maybe Eric can plug it, he plugs everything else.

Can you please tell me what PCA stands for and how do I go about contacting Garey. I'm new to this whole scene being that this is my first P car which I have only owned since October. Thanks ahead of time...I really appreciate the input.

Porsche Club of America. Garey is the local region President (at least he was a year ago when I left there). He's a 6speed online member and usually hangs out in the 996 Turbo forum. You can look him up in the 6Speed members list and send him a private message. He actually uses his real name as his 6Speed member name.

 

No fret, basalt black should be one of the easiest to match, you will never know it was there.

 

I sure hope you're right! The only thing that scares me is that all the people I have spoken to so far (body repair places) and have seen my car say that it is one of the toughest colors to match. Not to mention the German paint issue which seems to be a problem across the board as it is a problem on BMW's as well. At least that is what I have been told. Like I said, I totally hope you are right and not them!

I'll let everyone know what happens. I sure hope to get this fixed sooner than later.

Arn....don't sweat it. We do this all day, every day, German paints and all. It can be done, and done perfectly. Just find the right guy, and don't rush it.

 

I have Basalt and ordered touch up paint and clearcoat for a chip, 1mm, in the bonnet. The supplier asked me for the mfg. date etc. to match the color. I don't remember the name of the Company, but will check when I get home tonight and post it.
It is a perfect match.
