Intermitten ignition issue
One of the most common electrical items to fail on some of the older Porsche's is the ignition switch. This failure can show up in any number of ways. The car can refuse to start some of the time, the key may not turn too easily in the ignition, or strange electrical problems may appear. Read more about the issue and a DIY fix here at this Tech Article.
We also have ignition switches available on our parts catalog here.

Working on Porsches requires a little bit of creativity, detective work and some cross referencing.

I replaced my ignition switch yesterday.(2005 997.1) Overall it was an easy self install.(30 minutes) The replacement switch did not require any programming and it resolved my issue. You also do not need the Special VW Tool. You just need a flathead screwdriver and it removed easily.
