I wonder if the symptoms you are describing are not due to the motor mounts being tired.....and needing to be replaced.

Yes worn shocks would result in the rear end being bouncy - try pushing up and down on passenger rear and if it bounces without immediately settling down, that is worn shocks.

Your symptom does not sound like worn shocks (they should not be worn as previously posted, given your mileage) but perhaps a broken or loose shock tower on the passenger side - did you hit a big pot hole recently? Is the passenger rear Wheel damaged at all (would indicate a hard hit), maybe engine mounts as others suggested. I'd take it to an Indy ASAP. Probably don't need to replace all 4 shocks is the good news....

Discovered this quarter panel was repainted at some point. I will take the shock out tomorrow and inspect the suspension.

my "loose" car was due to old tires. MPSS with 20K on them. Replaced with PolePositions and all is well.

Shocks were fine. No leakage. It would be very hard to bounce a 997 even with bad shocks.

I meant loose by something actually not tight enough, a nut, a bolt. You can hear the noise when going over bumps.

I am planning on getting the car checked before the end of the week, I have ordered the rear shocks just in case they are needed at the time of the check up.

I will update the post as soon as I get the issue resolved.

Don't buy shocks. This is not a 50K mile replacement item. Have tech check bushings in rear suspension.

Both shocks were leaking and the passenger rear shock was missing the top mount insert, not only that, the nut that holds down the spring was loose.

A complete disaster.

That is pretty scary. Was the missing piece from the same side where the quarter panel was painted?

Obviously this is not normal wear and tear. Ugh.

Yes, same side. Most likely happened at the body shop.

I could see a BS not putting it together properly (be concerned what else was done in a slip shod manner) but, would that cause them to leak?

Possibly the car was tracked as some point.
