Drove a Tesla today
Drool...! Thanks for the link.
I just got my 997.2 to keep me happy for a while but I think I'd skip the all-turbo generation for whatever production vehicle the Mission E becomes. I especially like the quick charge Porsche is promising with the Mission E. Tesla's idea of a quick charge is a non-starter for lengthy road trips.
I don't think anyone is saying the tesla would replace a 2 door sports car. It is probably a great sedan option. I am scared to test drive one, because everyone who owns one and I have spoken to in person, can't stop raving about it. I think I would love it also. I would still rather have my S6, which is fully loaded and modified to 550hp. When I get my next sedan, I will consider the tesla, but as someone stated on the first page, for that price I would have to cross shop with a Sclass benz, and that will be tough match up.
I have spoken to a billionaire founder of sun microsystems, and he personally knows Mr. Musk. He says that Musk pays himself a several hundred million a year salary, but still has the company claim a financial loss. A big reason is to get subsidies from the govt. Not sure of how much that is true, but makes sense how our govt and big corps do things

Today in the news Tesla got slammed from consumers report. Went from the best rating consumers reports ever gave to very bad.
Stock fell 6%.
Glad I just took a test ride and didn t consider it more.

ahh...making purchasing decisions based on Consumers Reports. The peace of mind knowing you have the best.
The Tesla remains a fantastic car, no matter the Bozos at Consumers Reports say.

It's a very interesting report to say the least.
Did you read the part that said that 97% said they would buy a tesla again. Higher then any other car brand by far.
Something lot lining up in that report.

It is all torque. 0-60 fast ... Real world...not so much. Any good times at the 'ring? Nope. Cause it's weighs 4500 lbs and batteries start to shut down due to heat after 3 minutes. This thing impresses with monster torque, it does not smoke 911s in any real-world performance test...
http://jalopnik.com/heres-what-a-tes...rin-1600644908. A 10 minute Ring time? WRX does less than 8, Mini Cooper in the 8s....You guys all know what 911s do. A Hellcat beats it to 60 for half the price.... Http://www.hybridcars.com/tesla-p85d...fastest-sedan/. And they don't talk about the range but I bet you need to recharge for 8 hours after 30 mins at the Ring....
Is it the future of the commuter car? I'd say yes. Layout and simplicity for the average commuter car is impressive. Plug it into your solar panel equipped garage - awesome - no more gas stations. I like that. No oil change, no transmission, software updates via wifi, etc.
Tesla is also losing $4k a car. How long can they sustain that? They are trying to raise equity in the stock mkt cause they are burning through cash at an alarming rate. I think in the medium term they get bought for technology by a major manufacturer -or- slowly become irrelevant as Porsche Audi, MB, BMW and Lexus all get into then full-electric sedan game and the it is game over for Tesla.
It is impressive technology for commuter cars but it is not replacing or beating my 911.

It can't complete 1 laps at Laguna without reducing power either.
Also many cars will walk a P90D from a roll despite a 10.8 ET. They are 0-60mph cars.
High satisfaction with the car and service despite numerous/frequent problems reported.
Of course there's high satisfaction reported. First of all, it's a prestige purchase being pushed heavily by the "Green" (aka Red) crowd. Secondly, people rarely report dissatisfaction with a purchase that is as high a percentage of their annual income as Tesla is with their average buyers. Having said that, everything I can see and dig up shows it is a well-designed car and the company actively tries to fix any situation that might make a buyer unhappy -- the very fact they are making those efforts is going to make a lot of people very satisfied with their purchase.
I used to read Consumer Reports regularly and believed in their tests and reports. Then I graduated from high school.

When I went to the dealer a while ago it s funny they made sure they mentioned Consumer Reports. Probably not so much now, LOL.
I have found consumers IMO to be pretty accurate in experience with cars I ve owned (and it s several dozen) with reliability and issues. You have to read them and understand it s not a perfect science and that "results may vary"...
I don t have a dog in the fight , so I don t care either way.

I was invited to drive one later this afternoon as part of an event related to the F1 races here in Austin, so I'll have a first-hand report soon. I don't really know why I haven't gone to the local dealer and test-driven one yet anyway... but once they asked I was all over it!
As for it being a 0-60 car, I guess this is an interesting side effect of their instant-torque electric motors. But I don't think that is the essence of the car. I live in an area where I tend to see these cars almost daily. Nobody I've seen is zooming around like it is a sports car. No one has ever tried to challenge me in my Porsche although there have been opportunities. I doubt very many are buying these as sports cars. They are luxury cars that have the benefit of being able to accelerate quickly if desired is all.

I don't think anyone is buying a Tesla for it's Nurburgring times...and for the vast majority of the population - real world actually does mean below 60mph, maybe up to 80 or so on the freeway. Of course there are those of us who wake up and hop into their cars and run Laguna Seca every morning.
That said - it's an amazing feat of engineering, and definitely makes the case as the first real glimpse of the future of passenger automobiles. It is the Anti-Prius for those who love cars.

Tis true, but Porsche had electric cars way back in the day to start with, because internal combustion wasn't reliable enough yet.
Granted, at the time it would literally compete with horses, but just saying that Porsche was into electric way before electric was hip.
