Porsche dealers are the only ones who have the additional activation codes and the PCM firmware. It took several hours for the dealer update the firmware (version 2.24) and load the 3.0 maps (although I was only was charged 1 hour for labor) ...but my firmware/maps had not been updated in several years.

 

why? because disks with updates is workshop tool. so you cant buy them. but I think non-official services with very good relations with dealers can have them.

several hours is real time. especially in case of olf software. versions must be loaded one by one, not latest one from start.

 

How much is your dealer charging to update the maps? I want to do it at my dealer, he said if I bought the maps he would update for free, but this was if purchasing from his parts dept which was like $450. Suncoast is a bit cheaper and and wanted to see if it was worth the hassle of buying from SC and having the dealer install or just buying and installing from dealer.

PCM has already been updated to 2.24, just need to get the last map update for our cars.

 

Don't know really - least of my problems at the moment. But I will post the results of this particular "issue" when all is done.

 

I've heard dealers charge a full hour of labor, but it's actually a fairly trivial procedure. I updated the maps on my prior Porsche and it only took a few minutes. Insert disc 1 in the frunk wait for it to say load disc 2, insert disc 2 wait a couple minutes and done. If you can work a cd or DVD player, you may have the skills it takes. The Porsche service department guy even offered to sell me the maps at cost because he thought the asking price was a joke and no one else was buying.

 

I finally got the latest maps I bought from Suncoast installed. FWIW, for the 997.2 cars with PCM3, there's no way to DIY this that I know of - it requires installation and coding at a dealer. There's no place to load them in the frunk and while the PCM disc slot may work, there's still the process of coding that needs to happen. Cost was 1 hour labor @ $135 less 10% PCA discount.

My PCM now shows System Version: V2.24 under the Info/Option menu. There's also another way to look at software update History by selecting Source/Info buttons at the same time - not sure it is that informative...

The list of new features on the Suncoast Site that updating to V2.2 (aside from the Map) includes (I have not had a chance to look at these):

Notes: The following additional functions can be used on PCM3.0 after updating the system software to system version V2.2, depending on vehicle equipment.

Navigation: – Adaptation of map display according to personal requirements (e.g. 3D map setting/display and hide traffic messages, etc.) and display of these features as a symbol on the map. Selection of these features by “touching” a symbol on the screen.

– When displaying the list of cities containing cities with identical names, the “Details” button can be used to show an additional map with more information. This makes it easier to select the destination you want.
– Additional display of set route options (toll, highway, etc.) as symbols in the Navigation main menu.
– When the detour query function is activated, a traffic message is displayed (approx. 10 minutes before reaching a traffic jam). You can then choose to “Detour”/”Ignore” the traffic jam or request further “Details”.
Bluetooth – The internal telephone (only for telephone module [I-no. 661]) switches automatically to Handsfree Profile (HFP) mode if the mobile phone does not support the SIM Access Profile (similar to SIM card inserted in PCM). Vehicle does not have to be re-coded in the workshop.

– Synchronization of call lists on mobile phone/PCM.
Voice control (I-no. 671):
– Increased recognition rate due to additional street queries. A “Best Match” is thus shown and alternatives are ruled out immediately.
Sport Chrono (I-no. 639/640):
– Graphic display of the recorded route
– Full-text search for Standard audio USB media (searches the entire database for any text) interface (I-no. 870): – New music search, starting from the track that is currently playing.

I updated my PCM/maps a few months ago and am still in the process of learning/resetting the additional features/options. The only issue I've been having is that the Bluetooth system sometimes doesn't synch up with my IPhone (my phone is listed as a device in the PCM but I receive an "unable to find..." message. Not exactly sure what is causing this because about half of the time it seems to synch up just fine! Probably going to take it back to the dealer to troubleshoot if I can't get it to synch properly. However, as you point out, there are so many more features than before so I'm pretty satisfied with the update.

 

I have had no issues with the iPhone 6s so far. Well, other than that when I got the car back, it was like a new PCM - phone was not there, no NAV addresses, personal settings gone, Sound settings back to defaults - that was a surprise.


And WHY does a US car default to km and Centigrade?
