Paddle Shift Mod On 997 Tiptronic - How?

I've just seen the most amazing picture.

Is adding a paddle shift hard to to do on a 997, because I am looking to buy this car hopefully and it would be a dream to have paddle shifters like this.

Can anyone point me to where and how this might be done, cost as well.

Cheers.

I went with a 997.2 paddle shift steering wheel with steering column module upgrade. The thick grip 997.2 wheel is very nice...love mine.

Cost: wheel $850.00, had seen cheaper here. Module $250.00 from Suncoast; airbag $300.00; installed/reprogrammed free with help from a fellow Texan.

Paddle shift add-on to existing wheel would be cheaper, i think.

Here is good thread https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...y-997-1-a.html

That picture you posted is from a guy that was using paddles from a Mercedes steering wheel and attaching them to your Porsche wheel. I considered letting him do it to mine, but decided he wanted too much for what it was.

There are 2 other options to get paddles in a tiptronic. If you want to keep the radio controls on the steering wheel, you'll need to get one like this from a 2009 or newer model. This is the one in my car:

Then you'll have to get a paddle kit made by techart and install it on the wheel, which is not a fun process.

If you don't care about having radio controls, the other option is to get a Porsche PDK wheel like tphan has in the picture above.

I wanted radio controls so I went with the first option, but in hindsight, I would have gone with the same wheel that tphan has.

You'll have to also get a new steering wheel control module that's mounted behind the steering wheel. It will also have to be programmed by the dealer, or find someone with a PIWIS computer.

Do a search on the forum, and you'll find more detailed conversations we had about doing this about a year and a half ago.

I did the conversion - pics of my conversion are on the thread - sports wheel.
looks great and functions perfectly. Paddles don't fit 100% flush - check the pictures but are very solid.

you need the paddles linked below and to follow the instructions.
if you have the sport wheel it is an easy job - no changes to the circuit. if you have the multifunction wheel I think you need to do some additional work.

I did the same Mercedes conversion. Very easy and less then $150 dollars. The only part that sucks if if you want the covers without the tip buttons they are something like $80 each side!

Wow.

You say its very easy, bearing in mind I have no experience or understanding with car mechanics.

If I were to buy these paddles and hand it over to my local car audio customising company, who do system upgrades for cars, would they be able to sort this out?

Cheers.

I would think so. This is what I used from a UK forum.

in that case, you might want to consider replacing the wheel completely with a 3rd party wheel. Easy installation and no coding required. RAID and FVD has them in various colours and trim. Mine below is the Gembella version. Miles and miles better than the original tip buttons.
