The thing is, just make sure that your dealer is cool with it. I understand that some of you have dealers that are jumping w/ joy about your EVO mods, but there are dealers out there (like mine) that do not like that stuff.

Yes, porsche can't deny service, blah blah, warranty, blah blah, call the corp office blah blah. The fact is, what IF the engine do have problems? Do you REALLY want to spend weeks and maybe even months arguing w/ EVO, porsche dealership, and Porsche about something that may end up costing you 30K or more?

Again, my best advise is to just stay safe w/ a car like this. If you REALLY have to mod it, call the dealership first. Then again, if the mod bug hits, why not pick up a car that's already out of warranty and have fun w/ that instead (for me, it's the E46 M3).

As i am sitting here reading.. and reading...
i see concerns about warranties for a performance vehicle.

I could sit here and blurb about how service will try and relate a flat tire to the installation of an intake.
Fact is..."Warranty voided on any particular part that fails or is deemed failed due to the DIRECT relation of any installed aftermarket item (i.e. MAF)"

However, during the late '70s this came along...
Magnuson-Moss Act 1975-76
http://www.autosafety.org/article.php?scid=116&did=754
the link is just a small interpritation.

I do understand the Moss act. But the fact is, the moment that your dealer says "oh ... you have this mod, and your engine just blew?". The moment that they say that, you KNOW that you are in for trouble.

I want to retain the ability to go into my dealership, having them just service the car w/ out calling me and giving me any surprises. No hassles, period.

I can understand having MAF problems by over- oiling the
K&N filter, but would you have that situation with the EVO filter? Doesn't seem possible IMHO.

Evo has developed a 'dry' filter process. So far this has been for the twin turbo's only.

As for the MAF's that went bad in the past: Some of the original-manufactured v-flows may have been over oiled. Since that slump, (to my knowledge) each filter is weighed for correct amount of oil.

Over the past 2.5 yrs we have seen no problems with mafs on 996's and once on the 996t and once on gt2 due to the over oil (high suction of turbo would literaly suck the oil off the filter. We have been using the dry filter since then.

Great feedback - I will check with my dealer and see what they say. I would love to get the intake and chip, however I don't want to get myself in a warranty situation.
Chris at worst it only takes 30mins to swap so let us know

My MAF was almost totally shot on my 996 at 18K miles with a stock filter. It's just a ****ty product (the MAF, not the intake).

It's actually even easier than the 996 install because you don't even have to relocate the air pump

Heres another approach for the 997. Down side is the ECU has to be remapped because the MAF is removed.
