Besides displacement are significant differences between the 3.6 and 3.8 engine. I am on a waiting list for a TT Cab S, and thought that would mean a 3.8 turbo?

How the car performs is way more important to me than the horsepower number.

Well porsche just released a 521HP cayenne turbo S. I know currently the cayennes have more power then the turbos, but I figured that was because the cayenne was newer. Will porsche release a 997 turbo that will be in 3rd place on its max horsepower chart? Doesnt seem logical.

The common person looks at peak horsepower, will porsche let their image be that their second most powerful car is a SUV?

Im thinking in the end it will have a higher HP then mid 400's.

good point. but i think they did that to shut the mouth of the upcoming ML63. u'll have to remember the 1st in line is V10. 2nd by V8. 3rd by F6. that makes sense as well. real deal is will the future 998 (or whatever) be F8, but even heavier...

Well then I wish they would do that for the 997 TT to "shut the mouth" of the AMG 63 people, the M6 people, not to mention the Z06 people. If they can see the landscape in the SUV market, why not the competitive sports car market too ?

I believe the magic # for the new 911 TT's will be ~500HP. The sportscar game has been really competitive in the past fives years. WIth $60K corvettes coming in at 500+ HP along with the new Vipers and BMW M5's + M6's, F430's + Ford GT's....even the new ford shelby cobra mustangs are gonna have nearly 500 in stock trim. It's ridiculous for a "sportscar" company debuting their *flagship* automobile with less HP than everyone else WITH the advantage of having turbochargers. The HP range will be between 480-to-520 for a stock TT...so lets say ~500 will be the magic number from a marketing and common sense standpoint. This IS porsches flagship $135K dollar car mind you.

---Kevin D.

PS: Its even more important than ever to hit that magic 500HP mark becuase NO...the 997TT will NOT get any lighter** If anything, they will load it up with MORE senseless luxo amenities and weight it down to become even more of a boat than it already is. Welcome to the yuppy direction porsche has shown to be selling out to in the last 8 years. With intercoolers and two turbos they should have no issue producing a 500HP emissions legal car when others are doing it using pushrods while being N/A*

I certainly hope whatever it is will be something that puts its reputation back where it always has been: Kicking ***!!

I hope its every bit of 500 HP and will beat up on any Ferrari(except the Enzo) and keep the reputation on the road of being one bad *****!!

What if the "500hp" is in the last 200 rpm? What good is that? It's power under the curve and actual performance numbers that people should be concerned with.

I don't get the huge concern for horsepower numbers. If the 997 Turbo has less than 500 hp but will do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and 0-100 in the 7's why flounder around just because some other car can "brag" about it's horsepower number?

One last time - the magic # is four-eighty-three
483HP out of the box kids

I am pleased with this for I feared they were sticking us with 450hp and 485hp woth a powerkit

So - stock at 483hp and a aftermarket 100 or 200 cell exhaust and 500hp easy

483 sounds good to me.. But whats more impressive is the fact that I heard that they changed the turbos and managed to get much more of a wider torque curve. Sorta like the supercharged thing..
I heard maximum torque will start as low as 2000 rpm's..

Variable vane turbos - torque way earlier in the rpm band.
