Engine whistles when hot...

OK so my wife said her car ('10 C4S) was "whistling" when it was hot. She came home and sure enough, the engine was whistling.

Took it to Porsche of Livermore and they diagnosed it as a water pump getting ready to fail. Car has 36K miles on it. So now it gets a new water pump and coolant flush. Good to go. I should have it back tomorrow afternoon. Glad it whistled before it failed completely.

I have a Fidelity Platinum warranty that is covering it. When I pick the car up I will find out what it otherwise would have been.

Now I don't feel so bad doing mine as preventative maintenance at 38K.

I did mine myself and it took around 2.5 hours , and did all new coil packs and plugs at the same time.

I used genuine Porsche parts, and the Plastic impeller on the pump.

I had the same. Sounded almost mechanical.

I P ut some belt dressing on and it went quiet. By the noise I had I also thought it was the water pump or idle pulleys etc. But this happened in the spring and the engine still runs fine and quiet.

I know it's already in workshop but for others it is good to check belt first. On the other hand the pump needs replacement sooner or later anyhow.

Got the car back, new pump and coolant flush. Cost me my $100 deductible. They billed Fidelity almost $1,200 for the water pump. Holy cow! That extended warranty was a good move maybe.
