Monster231 is infamous around these parts
What would you do? (997.1 Maintenance)

Here's the story with the car:
  • Got a good deal so I pulled the trigger and had the car shipped from FL
  • 2006 S with 70XXX miles
  • Sport Chrono, 6 speed, sport seats
  • Fab Speed Headers, Exhaust, cats
  • Fab Speed intake
  • Lowered on H&R springs
  • Short shifter
  • PPI done at Gulf Motorsports came in great.. No Over revs, No leaks, no stories.
  • Has nice three piece wheels and some TechArt body bits here and there
  • 2 owner car
  • 1st owner maintained it at the dealership in CA until 51K miles
  • No real service history from owner #2
  • The second owner left it out in the sun, so some of the paint is burned, the dash is wavy, etc..
  • When the car arrived it would not start, after some drama I had the starter replaced and brand new Conti's installed..
  • I spend 20+ hours taking care of the paint (clay, #4, #3, #1, glaze, wax, wax).. Its not perfect, but it looks ok

I think i hear the PS pump whining a bit. Fluid was within range, I added a bit to bring the level up.

I am going to have local shop look at it to confirm, but I thought as long as I am at it i would replace the water pump, power steering pump, belt, plugs, coils, filters, flush brakes, header gaskets, etc..

All the parts are around $1K on Pelican.. I figure I can knock this out in a few days and when I screw something up I can call my buddy who is a mechanic at an exotic dealership.. He's not a Porche guy, but has seen plenty of them

Am I missing anything? Is there any reason not to do this? Any words of wisdom?

No issues with that list. I'd bleed the clutch when you're doing the brakes as they share the same fluid, but the clutch doesn't recirculate it on the 997.1 cars, only the 997.2 models. Add the LN Engineering spin on oil filter adapter and magnetic drain plug. If there's any notchiness or hang up shifting into 1st arcs stop once the fluid is up to operating temperature, renew the transmission oil with Mobil 1 PTX.

In a street/daily car, there's no beneficial purpose except wasting gas.

There has been a lot of opinions about the thermostat and lowering the temps. Some see benefits, others none.

For me, I REALLY like the benefit of my fan not running to cool off the engine after shutting off the engine post spirited driving. I am a strong believer of heat being a strong engine enemy.

Cheers!

Jake Raby's opinion differs from yours. Without going into too much detail, with a particular thermostat, the engine operates within a range. That range with the lower temp thermostat not only keeps the average temperature in a range that's better for the engine, but also in one that produces about 12 more HP on average.
