Farewell--for now....
I decided to sell the 911. It was a hard decision but the cost of maintenance and repairs was starting to wear me down a bit. It was by far the most intoxicating car I have ever owned. I hope to join the fold again down the road. I sold the car to a guy that was just as excited as I was when I got it and I hope the car is great for him.
Thanks to everyone for all of the great info on this forum the past few years--very helpful.
For now, I decided to go the muscle car route again. 2016 Mustang GT with full load. It's certainly no Porsche, but it is 435 hp and 400 ft lbs of unrefined fun
Not a big convertible guy but the deal was right.
I'll be back!

Mostly wear and tear: control arms, tie rods, starter, aos, water pump, ....
I had 117000 kms and just wanted to get out of it before anything more major "might" happen.

water pump and all that is normal for any car- Mine has 78k on it now 2005 and knock on wood nothing major, just wear and tear, waterpump, clutch, tires, brakes..
I understand your situation, and I don't want to be the "buzz kill". The "muscle car" thing I think is rather passe, but I get it. I will say in between my last 997 (standard) and current "S", I test drove the Mustang 5.0, and I was instead primarily driving a Ford Edge Sport. Although I really really like what Ford finally did with the independent rear suspension, and the Coyote 5.0 is impressive, they're like all over the place.
I thought the interior was well-thought out, although I hate to use the term " passe" again, it was, EH - REALLY. But to each their own.
The 5.0 Coyote power plant is impressive, but if it included as standard the GT500 punch, I would have taken another look. In the end, it's really a subjective thing. For me, sans the GT500 (although I'm not a fan of the styling cues), I just couldn't make the leap. Hence, I opted for another 997.1, relative low mileage, and the pedigree I desired.
I'm truly not knocking your choice as it's all relative. By the sounds of it, you made a necessary decision for your moment in time, and I suspect it will not be long before you're back in the saddle. It's as the slogan states: "Porsche, There is No Substitute"
Just be careful leaving car shows - lots of youtube videos showing Mustangs crashing.

The roar of the engine, yet the "roar" and acceleration didn't match - I don't know what it is. At the time I was in the interim driving a Ford Edge Sport that I had leased and coming to an end - thank God. Although I really really like what Ford finally did with the independent rear suspension, and the Coyote 5.0 is impressive, they're like all over the place.
I thought the interior was well-thought out, although cheap, and I hate to use the term " passe" the toggle switches were not impressive. I will say though, Mustang FANATICS have a following and for that alone it's nice to see the excitement - I have many friends with 5.0s of all generations and they're hard core - KODOS to you.

I hear ya. Telling people I sold the 911 and got a Mustang is not easy
For me it is downgrading from my dream car to something more affordable that I can have some fun with--that's it. They are not comparable in any way (and shouldn't be, considering that one has a MSRP of 56k now and the other was North of 100K in '07!). However, pushing the Start button and hearing the V8 fire up does it for me. Like I said, I hope to be back in a 911 again some day. Cheers.

Congrats on the new car!
I had a '16 Mustang GT convertible as a rental for a few days last spring and was overall pretty impressed. Of course, you can't compare the interior materials to a $130K 997.2; but the car drove very nicely, and made phenomenal sounds. I had the good fortune of driving some fun roads between Halifax NS and Peggy's Cove.
I would not mind adding one of these to the stable, if I actually had a stable. Given I have a small suburban garage, it's one or the other, and the 997.2 is here to stay... at least for a while...
