Black Foam coming out of Vents

Hi,
I have an '05 997S with 77k miles on it. Recently little bits of sticky yet disintegrating black foam have been coming out my veins- dash, defrost, and footwell. I know this must be related to the ducts that carry the air, and possibly even seal off the path for cool vs warm air.

Is the only fix a complete removal of the dashboard? I imagine that would be very costly. It matters in that the car is not cooling as well as it should/ used to.

Same happened to my 996. Its the seal for the ducting, and its just something i lived with. It will eventually stop, but it is a very time consuming project to fix

happened in my 996 also. PITA when it blows right in my face while driving. I just used a small air tube taped to my shop vac & sucked out all that crap.

But is it diminishing the cooling capability of the AC?

Technically yes, but i didnt really notice a difference in colling. What i noticed was it would cause the windshield to fog, as the lack of sealing caused a/c to blow out the defroster even when not selected
