Exhaust Tips

Anyone here had their C2S or C4S exhaust tips replaced as per the recall? How do you like it? Is it any better?

I am having the optional X54 chrome tips installed on Friday. Plan to pay for the tips and the installation will be on the recall.

I did not get notice of the recall, even though I heard about it. My car was within the build date period. Did others receive the notice? I wonder if X51 cars were included in the recall; or cars with PSE?

My 2006 997 was also within the dates but I also have not received a letter. My local dealer still has no stock of the new tips so maybe that is why?

The recall # is A601. It applies to model year 2005 and 2006 997S coupes and Cabs. It does not mention whether it applies to the standard and/or PSE exhaust. It only states that, "Exhaust tailpipes have been fitted to the rear muffler of your 911 Carrera S (997) that may feature insufficient weld seams between the fastening clamp and the tailpipe."

It goes on to say that the weld seam might fracture resulting in the tailpipe making a rattling noise. Blah, blah, blah

Just got my recall notice (safety notice A601) in the mail yesterday. The safety recall notice says it is a 40 minute fix.

Another reason why we own Porsche's.
I went to the dealer this AM to have the X54 chrome tips installed on my 997S and asked if the recall would cover the labor. Not only did the recall cover the labor they threw in the chrome tips; $285. each.
They also did recall W557 hood latch and ordered the shift cable bracket for recall W556.

I had a PSE that was replaced for rattles, but it was before the recall. I later found out that it was one of the original 18 exhausts that were replaced under warranty before the recall was initiated.

So it apprarently affects both standard C2S exhaust as well as the PSE.
