Shout out to BRracing for awesome PPI

Hi All,

After 5 years of not owning a pcar, I decided to buy a 997.1 c2s near San Jose. I was looking for a shop to schedule a ppi. I called a few shops around the area and 2 places were very happy to take my money when I asked them to do a borescope and compression tests. I got a quote for about $800 to do these two tasks in addition to a ppi along with the A/C and coolant radiator leakage tests. I called Bruce at BRracing and asked him to do all these tests for me. The first thing he told me was don’t waste my money doing the borescope and compression tests. If they are presented in the car, they will have thrown a check engine light. He also told me the car is a low mileage one and no needs to worry about doing these tests. Following his advice, I just did a regular ppi for $185. Unforgettable, the car didn’t pass the ppi and they told me to pass on the car which I agreed 100%. It’s very refreshing that I still encounter good and honest people in this industry. I high recommend this shop for ppi or maybe other car related work. Thanks Bruce for being honest and awesome services!!!!!!!!!

That's great and all, and they're right about poor compression throwing a misfire CEL, but not correct about the bore scoring doing the same, especially in the early stages where it has begun at the base of the cylinders. By the time a scored bore causes a CEL, the engine needs a rebuild. Pulling the pan and boroscoping from the bottom as well as through the spark plug holes to see the tops let's you catch it before it gets to the point where it throws a CEL.

I'd find a shop willing to do what you asked of them initially.
