Test drove a 997 c4s today while waiting at the stealer

I was at the dealer picking up the CTT and got to talking to a sales guy buddy about the differences between the 996 and 997. About 2 min. into the conversation with me praising the 996 for style and innovation and being ahead of its time he grabs some keys. We walk outside to an 06 997 c4s with 300 miles (demo). He starts explaining about all the new features and how loaded the car is. Has PASM, chrono, NAV, sport exhaust, bose, etc. We get in with him driving and take a spin. After exiting the lot he is pulling out all the ponies. We hit 100 in what seemed like a very very short distance and then shut down for a stop sign. He makes a quick run down another street and then pulls over to let me drive. Showtime! I get the seat adjusted along with the mirrors and we take off. We are on some very empty backroads in a warehouse district so it was easy to stretch the legs out a bit. I drove for about 1/2 mile with the sport and pasm off and was pretty impressed with acceleration from a stand still along with huge passing gears in the 6 speed manual. Sales guy turned pasm on along with sport and that was when it got a little more interesting. First off, the car handled like it was glued to the ground and had track tuned suspension. It did not feel like a harsh ride, quite the opposite. It was a very intensive feel that seemed to offer even more feel for the road in every corner. I loved it! I can easily see this car being capable of low 4 sec. 0-60 times and must also be a dream on the track with some MPSC's.
Bottom line? This car kicks *** and takes names.
They are selling this particular car for around $90K and it had a $110K sticker. I am so torn...........The color is black and I am not really feeling like getting another black car (CTT is black). I really miss the last couple silver cars as they are so much easier to keep clean....blah blah!
Anyway, I am stuck. This car is a great deal but I really want a x50. But then I really like the new with warranty and all the new bells and whistles, but then I want turbos and silver......Arghhhhhh, damn sales guy!

All you folks with your 997's enjoy them! You drive awesome vehicles.
Thanks for hearing my tale.

There's always the "what if" with purchases this large.
Glad you enjoyed your test drive. For what it's worth, I absolutely love my C4S.
X50, TT,...you can always get one on the next purchase!

Was that the Plano dealer or the Dallas dealer. From what I remember, the Plano dealer had a lot of nice cars. IIRC, they had 3 CGT's in stock this past fall.

i saw one last weekend. also a black one with all the similar options, which was a launch car. they are discounting them everywhere, and i would agree... it is beautiful. i was tempted and still tempted......

i think it would be a wonderful car to have, but i can understand other temptations such as TT, x50.

I can definitely relate to your situation. I came from a B6 S4 into the CTT. While I do like the CTT alot, I am itching for a 6speed and better handling.
I have also been looking around at 996 c4s'. Not sure what the power comparison is but the interior amenities in the 997 are almost worth the extra money by themselves. I really feel like it is a big improvement over the 996.

Interesting......so you werent impressed with the 996 c4s power.. That is good info. I am no longer impressed by the CTT after the drive today and considering my CTT is sitting out front of my house and will not run......roadside is picking it up in the morning to take it back to hell, I mean the dealer.......and maybe they can actually FIX it this time.

take awhile to get used to. not as notch as B&M in 996 but it's not smooth when the car is cold. once the car is warm up it feels very good, same on the CGT. almost impossible to get in gear when the car is cold.

i don't know what others think. i like the clutch to match with the feel of the shifter. it's all about timing. if i have a heavier clutch i prefer to have a shorter throw shift. if the clutch is light i prefer the longer smoother shift. don't know if that make sense but for me both things are connected.

Same here, now that I think about it. That is well-articulated, Arling -- one of those intangibles I never thought about the two correlating until I read this.
