Very soft ride after tire change on 997.1
Very soft ride after tire change on 997.1
Hello,
New member but a long time lurker here. I have a stock 2006 Carrera S.
When I bought the car with 34K miles on it, it had the OEM P Zero tires on. I loved the way the car handled, the turn-in was super-sharp, as in "bang your head on the side window"-sharp if you're not anticipating the turn.
I have since put about 6K miles on it, and have replaced the tires with Hankook V12 Evos. I wasn't expecting the same performance as with the PZero's, but I wasn't expecting the handling to change THIS much. The turn-in is now super-soft, as in Toyota Camry soft. Even in the Sport mode. MUCH softer than my son's Subaru BRZ on the crappy OEM Primacy, for example. I read the V12 Evo reviews and it seems to be a respectable tire for the price, so I'm confused what's causing this.
Anyone here with an experience with these tires? Is this expected? Or is there possibly something with maybe resetting the suspension that has to be taken care of when tires are installed that NTB maybe missed? The car does seem to sit pretty high right now, with about a 3 inch gaps on top of the tires.
Any advice or input would be appreciated.

Have you checked the tire pressures? It's amazing what 5 PSI can do either way.
Most of the time dealers and tire shops way over inflate tires and the car rides like a wagon which is the opposite of what it sounds like you have going on.

I am by no means an expert on tire pressure but I have had Hankook Evos on other cars and found they have soft side walls. I would try them at 40 psi cold and see how it changes the feel.
Also if they are new tires they may need some bedding in. They can feel greasy and move around a lot for the first 500 miles.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll experiment with different pressures and see how it affects the turn-in. If it's the tires, than it's the tires, I'll know not to use the V12s again.
But I was mainly concerned with suspension. Is it possible that simply lifting the car and taking the wheels off/putting them back on could somehow mess with PASM on my 997.1S?
Or is it possible that over time the PASM-controlled shock absorbers have gone very soft?
Thanks!
