pcar09 is infamous around these parts
High Pressure Pump for 2009 C2

I had the check engine light come on my 09 C2 with 71,000 miles. Dealer diagnosed it as an issue with the High Pressure Fuel Pump. I am the original owner of the car and the fuel pump was replaced as part of a Porsche campaign/recall in 2012. The dealer quoted me a price of $3,300 for parts and labor. This price seems insanely high given research I have done on this and other forums. Am I missing something that would justify this price? I have a long term relationship with this dealer, but feel that maybe they are trying to take advantage of the relationship.

I agree. That sounds insane. The HPFP on my 2011 GTS went bust and was replaced at no cost as a recall item. No charge for either parts or labor. Call the parts department at your dealer or check on Porsche.com what the cost of the pump is. Then add 2 or 3 hours of labor. I don't believe it should take much longer than that. Maybe even less. And I would ask your service advisor whatever happened to the recall replacement that I got.

And I know a water pump is not the same as a High Pressure Fuel Pump but just for reference, I had the water pump and the serpentine belt replaced on my 2009 C4S for around $1,200 as I recall it.

Service jobs are typically based on the following:
  1. Price for the parts
  2. Number of hours to do the job
  3. Their labor rate ($/hr)
  4. Miscellaneous taxes and fees, like waste disposal, etc...
Can you breakout parts #1, #2 and #3 from their quote?

#1 is likely the list price. #2 should be a standard amount of time for the job. The biggest variable from place to place is likely #3.

Here in the Bay Area, Porsche dealers are now charging $300/hour (and some Indys are $200/hour).

4 hrs of Dealer labor can be $1200, just by itself.
