High Pressure Fuel Pump = FAIL!!

Well, with only 9k miles on the odo, my '09 Cayenne-S would hardly start on Saturday morning and ran like complete junk once it did start. Monday morning at 8AM I called my dealer's service dept. and they sent a flat-bed truck within an hour. By that afternoon they called and said it was a bad high pressure fuel pump.

Everything was covered under the warranty of course, but the pump is $700 and the labor is 5-hours @ $120/hr. So, with tax and misc. costs, you're looking at a ~$1,500 job.

The best part . . . they replaced it with an identical pump. Same model #. There's NO way I'll be keeping this thing once the lease is up!

Nice driving car but considering this is my first Porsche, I'm not impressed.

BTW, my brothers '08 335xi BMW had exactly the same problem at ~9k miles too. In fact, BMW now stocks these high pressure fuel pumps because so many of their direct-injection cars need them replaced. I've even read where some guys are on their third and fourth pumps. Crazy!!

Speaking of bmw I just got lemon law on my 335i for the full purchase price minus 1500. Because the fuel pump went out on me four times.

I have the same exact problem on my 09, fixed under warranty.

There is also a service action, WA29 for this part. It is physically different than the ones removed, and also accompanies new DME software. I have also seen the part number on occasion not change, but the part does.

fuel pump failure

Well it took over 100,000 miles before the right fuel pump went out, they replaced both (last owner), I figure I have another 65k before they go out again!

The high pressure fuel pump and the in-tank fuel pumps are different. The high pressure fuel pump is only on 2008+ Direct fuel injection cars. This pump is located on the back of the bank 2 (Drivers side) Cylinder head and driven off the camshaft.

I actually went to the dealer to have this part replaced there is a service campaign for that part, but we realized after my 2010 GTS was built late enoungh the problem was already fixed. So no work needed to be done
