2006 911 Front Wheel Clearance Issues

I just bought a 2006 911 Carrera base that has 20x9 wheels up front along with H&R Lowering Springs. The front tires scrape on the fenders when turning and going over some bumps at speed.

I’m trying to determine if the car is just sitting too low or if the wheels are too wide, any thoughts?

I think the base car came with 18" wheels from the factory so going to 20" wheels along with a 1.25" drop with the H&R springs is quiet a leap. That said, the base sat pretty tall from the factory so I'm not sure what's going on here. I could swear I've read of those who have gone to 20" wheels along with H&R springs on S cars that sit lower than the base car to begin with and had no issues such as what you're describing.

Are you sure there's nothing else that's been done to the car other than 20" wheels and the springs?

20" wheels don't look good on a 997 and your car is way too low. I'd also guess the offset of those wheels is wrong too, like maybe low 40s instead of the proper 50 to 52 for an 8.5" wheel If they're 9" wide wheels, the offset needs to be an even larger number like 57.

What size are the tires? For a 20" wheel you'll need to reduce the aspect ratio to a 30 or maybe even a 25 (depending on width selected) to keep the.rolling circumference the same as that of a 235/35-19 tire.

Personally, I'd remove those and sell them and find yourself a nice used set of 19" forged wheels in the $3,000-$4,000 range. Not only will the car look better, but it will also drive much better. You still may have to do something with proper height springs. Those are an inexpensive low pressure cast wheel that costs about $1,500 - $2,000 for the whole set.

As far as I’m aware nothing else has been done to the suspension to make it sit that low. I have documentation for a lot of what was done and haven’t seen anything else.

You may have broken a coil on your spring as the suspension looks almost collapsed vs lowered. Has happened on a few 997s in the past. Is the other side front wheel sitting at the same height?

The height is consistent on both sides. I just got the car back home yesterday. I’ll to take the wheels off today to inspect.

I have all of the factory parts so I definitely plan on putting the stock springs back on.

Adjusting the camber will help some…but first, you need to find the overall diameter of current tire vs stock. 2nd, you’ll also need to find the offset of these wheels vs stock. These will be key to figure out what’s needed.
