Widest 911
Widest 911
Greetings,
I am curious what was the widest 911 without aftermarket or OEM bodykits? I am guessing it's the current 997 4S/Turbo?
About 3 weeks back, I saw amazing looking silver 997 4S in the Bloomingdale area (Nerge and Roselle Rd) in the Chicago suburbs. I am thinking it belongs to a member here. Perhaps it was the angle, but the car looked very wide.

Sounds like you might be talking about me...
The C4S / 997 Turbo bodies are 44mm wider than the C2/C2S. The rear tires are 305/30-R19 on 11" rims. My car wears the Sport Designs, which I've really fallen in love with... they have a weird symmetric / asymmetric thing going on with the 15 spokes.
I live out west and work in Itasca (when I'm not on the road). I was probably on my way to the office when you saw me. I've attached a pic of the car here, is this what you were looking at? Thanks for the kudos!

Interesting. I've seen 997 narrow and wide body side-by-side. Due to the absence of the side vents, I still like 996 widebody. For some reason, the 997 wide body was subtle to me. That's probly bc i own a narrow body.

One of the reasons you're not interested in the 996 is because the 997 C4/C4S is 0.8" wider??

Unfortunately, MW wasn't ready to deal - funny, as I've bought two other cars from them (maybe my negotiating skills suck?) - so I ended up buying from Sunflower Porsche in Topeka, KS. The ride home was awesome.
In the end, I'm quite glad that I chose Arctic Silver over Black - two black cars are just too much to deal with - I have to work for a living... minimal time for detailing.
Several board members have had great experiences at the Porsche Exchange, and I might end up heading that way for service. OTHO, the guys at Napleton in Westmont are super nice... it might be worth checking them out when you're ready to buy.I have always been enamored with the 993-style widebody. The 996 never really worked for me just because of that fact - everything else about the 996 is fantastic. But the 997 C4S, well... it's perfect.
I'm up to my ears with travel for the next month (bummer - Porsche in garage, me on planes
) - but if you don't decide by the time I get back, we'll have to get together... I think that I can convince you to offload the Viper and join the P-car Party...
(Bet that Viper is quick as H*ll, though!)

Don,
I think you made a good decision with the silver - I think it further accentuates the wide a$$
I would be delighted to meet up with you when your time allows - I know what you mean about traveling. I was on a long term assignment in Munich (24months) right after I bought my Viper and it was very very painful. Although, it gave me plenty of time to line up my aftermarket goodies.
Viper is quick but refinment is synonymous to... go kart. Here's a pict before my suspension mod:
