PDK Issue - no reverse and the gearbox warning in RED
Got into my 2009 .2 this morning, turned the key and started the car. I wasn’t able to put it in reverse, the little red LED next to the R on the gauge indicator was blinking red and the red gearbox image was showing on the dash. I was able to move forward. Ambient temperature was about 83,84°.
I turned the car off left for a little bit over an hour, then connected my icarsoft POR II up which returned 3 codes. Pics attached. That device has been pretty handy. I was able to successfully clear all three codes, then started the car, and everything was normal again. I guess my question is… For how long? Could this just have been a hiccup or something that is going to cost a bunch fairly soon?
i’ve read articles out here about similar issues, but usually that’s after the car is already pretty warmed up, or even been running hard, but never on a cold start.
anybody have any thoughts after looking at the screenshots of the codes that it threw?
Good luck with it. The PDK scares the hell out of me and why my 987s are manuals and why I don't own a Macan. There are some very knowledgeable PDK folks over on Rennlist like PV997 who usually jumps into all the PDK threads.
From what I've read, PDK issues are usually failed distance sensors inside that can be replaced by a few shops that now work on PDK, whereas Porsche just replaces the whole transmission to the tune of $15k or so.
That does not look like the typical position sensor issue but rather an issue on the hydraulic/clutch side. Here's the fault description for the P17B1 and P1990 (no description for P0700). I'd focus on the P17B1.
Here's the PDK diagnosis chart.
I'd start by checking fluid levels and for signs of leaks. Was the gearbox recently serviced?
So I decided to monitor my battery closely and in the mornings when I receive the error being first thing in the morning and it was reading around 12 V. I replaced the battery with a brand new one same size, amperage, etc. and I have not thrown any PDK since that was done.
Obviously, I will monitor for a while and hopefully it won’t pop back up but if that was the fix, I certainly saved myself a lot of time and energy.🤞
