Unhappy Do I have a 997S Gremlin?

Okay it happened again today for the third time....

Sometimes when I am driving around town I stop the car, remove the key and get ready to exit the vehicle and the warning chimel sounds and my display says "parking light on." The headlight / parking light switch is in the off position and the key is removed. I go out to look and see what lights are on and it is ONLY the passenger side parking light and passenger side rear tail light. The driver side lights are all off. Keep in mind, I was driving during the day all threee times and I never touched the headlamp switch whatsoever. It just happens on its own. The only way to get the parking lights off is to drive with the headlights on for about five minutes and then turn them off and most of the time everything goes back to normal.

I am concerned. Each time I try and make it to my dealer to show them the lights start to function properly by the time I arrive. The only thing I can think of is my aftermarket wedge parking lights (clear) located by the front feder wells may be shorting or triggering something? Very frusterating. I am concerned that someday the parking lights will not turn off and I will end up with a dead battery because the passenger side is stuck on.

Any ideas on what is wrong and what I can do about it?

Was your right turn signal on when you shut the car off?

Geeeze....so after all this stress the issue is actually a feature? Yes, when my turn signal is on and I remove the key from the ignition the specific turn signal then stays on. I believe it will stay on indefinatley until I then re-start the vehicle and disengage the turn signal. My dealer didn't even know about this feature....uhhh am I missing something, whats the use?

Chris,
same feature on my old school CLK but the switch actually shows left & right parking light. i guess it's a safety feature oversea where parallel parking is popular. at night the parked car wants to be seen in case other blind driver run into it.

I would be concerned that your dealer did not know this.
