A quick question

Sorry for asking a dumb question but it has been bugging me since I first got my car a month ago. In the area I outlined below in the pix, there seems to be a piece of clear plastic on the panel on both side of the car. I don't have my digital camera with me but I will try to get it later tonight. Any ideas why there might be a clear plastic on that part of the panel? It looks very odd to me in direct sunlight and I don't really see it in anyone else's car. By the way, it is a brand new black 06 997.

Hey wangt1015 I really can't understand what you are talking about...are you considering the black plastic part under the side skirts??

It was on my basalt black 997s; I figured that the dealer forget to remove it during PDE. I took it off last week, so far so good.

Just found on what that clear plastic piece was. I guess porsche puts a clear plastic piece on all the Carreras (and turbos) to help minimize damage from road debris kicked up by the front tires onto the rear flairs. Since my car is black, it is a little bit more noticeable.

mishref, what did you use to remove it? Did you just peel it off or us some other solution on it first?
Thanks for your help.

You guys must be too young to remember the original 930 turbos from the 70's and 80's, when the rock guards were in black, regardless of your car color, and were designed to be there permanently to protect the flares. Check 'em out on eBay if you've never seen them . . .

the plastic guard is placed at an area where most debris may damage your car. i would not recommend removing it. my local dealer told me they have seens cars come back with bunch of rock chips at this area. i don't think they look odd. as one said, the old carreas all have a big balck piece sitting there. another option is to have a custom piece put in that may be less obvious.

It is a factory clear bra for the fender flares. I believe that it was originally on the C4/C4S only, now it's appearing on the C2/C2S, also.

I wouldn't take it off! That area of the fender gets a lot of road spray - you will not like the result...

I just pulled it off, its like a large clear sticker..

It was a pain to wax the car with that stuff on, the whole car would shine flawlessly and that part stood out as it was a bit dull. And if that area gets chipped badly; I will just repaint and redo the clearbra myself.

I would not remove it. It will protect your car from scratches and worse.

I'd leave it on. Just treat it like the paint (wax it etc) and it will shine as well. I having one of mine replaced under warranty - the guy at the factory forgot to wear gloves - he left behind his thumb print on the undersurface of the plastic sheet.

I wonder if they'll track him down with the evidence

Yeah, its to protect against rocks and other stuff that could be kicked up from the road. The mercedes cls has them on too.
