Installing new K&N FIPK tonight

I just got my recently released intake from K&N, I plan on putting it on tonight and possibly getting rid of my Fabspeed.

The intake is designed for the 996 & 997, unfortunatly on the dyno graph it was on a 996. I'll be happy to get 1/2 of the manufacturers claim

K&n Fipk

I'm picking mine up at FedEx this afternoon but won't be able to install for a week or so. Let us know how your's goes. Just read a post (either here or on another board) that K&N filter install popped a CEL. Post didn't say it was FIPK though.

Got mine yesterday too, but since I've never installed this kind of thing I might have to wait until someone does it for me...

Damn, I sure hope it doesn't trigger a CEL. My ECU is tuned for an intake so thats a good thing.

Install is pretty simple. I havent touched a car since I left for college so now, it was pretty intimidating for something this simple, but took me lest than an hour. Now I just miss messing with my cars

Good good, Keep your fingers crossed for no CEL faults, Another tip is to leave the airintake for half an hour outside in the heat so the excessive oil gets soaked, Thats what I do with the K&N's I have installed before on my past cars; To me its a safety measure

I have never sseen so much hardware in a K&N intake before. Not to mention that the instructions were not the best. There was a engine vacum line and plug that had nowhere to go after removing the factory air box so we mounted the unit in the intake tube.

The pictures will give you a better idea. I cannot believe the idiots at K&N didn't realize this.

The sound is much better than the old Fabspeed kit, but the computer is still learning before I can determine what the power gain was. Soon I hope to be off to the dyno again.

Evil997... let us know where and if you feel the power gain... I'd be interested to know if there is any gain on a super hot day... many people complained about the EVO making the car "slower" on a really hot day cause it was letting in tons of hot air...

The K&N filter has a heat shield around it to prevent sucking hot air. It seals to the deck lid. It is hard to tell yet what kind of power gain it has made

First time I hear about that .. might have to rethink the mod (I live in Kuwait).

With all the mods I definitly noticed a power gain above 4000 rpms. The throttle response is better and the sound is music to my ears. Not sure of my baseline numbers but with just the cats, headers and flash the car made 318 rw on a Dyno Jet. Take that for what it is worth.
