PSE question
PSE question
If your car (997S) is equipped with PSE and Sport Chrono is the only way to run the PSE in the open (loud) mode to toggle the sport button and change the PASM and throttle map to the sport mode as well?
Secondly, if you don't get sport chrono, PASM still automatically moves to the sport mode, or at least more aggressive damping under hard driving correct? So, if you forgoe Chrono all you really lose is the more agressive throttle map yes?
Basically I want to know if you can drive around and enjoy PSE without the car being in sport mode..
TIA

My understanding is that if you have the Sport Chrono Plus and want PSE without everything that the Sport switch changes, you need to get under the hood and either disconnect the electrical connection to the PSE or block the vacuum to the PSE - both of these methods have been extensively discussed in many previous posts with pictures too. That way PSE is on all the time and the Sport and PASM switches do what they're supposed to do. I also seem to remember a post where someone wired the PSE to a separate switch that he added that only controlled PSE. Don't know the answer to Q2.
from OEM, the sport button turns on PSE, PASM, and sports chrono. there is no other way around it. i usually turn off the PASM separetly if i don't want the hard ride. but no way to separate PSE and chrono from the switch.
My car has sport chrono and I had PSE installed by my dealer after I bought the car.
When I switch to sport mode, the car changes the engine management profile to sport, PASM goes to sport mode, and PSE turns on complete with the normal cutouts.
My dealership hard wired a switch for me under the sport button that controls the PSE system only and allows me to manually go into full loud mode without any cutouts.
Sport mode overrides the manual switch. Even if I manually select loud without cutouts, turning on sport mode reactivates the cutouts.
So to answer your question, yes you can drive around and enjoy your PSE without the car being in sport mode. In fact, you may enjoy it even more because it's even louder with the cutouts disabled. The cutouts kick in to shut PSE off during the loudest part of the rev range. It's pretty damn loud! I have a sound clip posted here somewhere without the cutouts. If you can't find it let me know and I will try to dig it up.

I never noticed if the exhaust cuts out in sport mode. I should try it today; I believe with the unplugging of the brown cable, the PSE is always on (no cutoffs) regardless. Maybe they are using a different system to enable/disable the loud part.

I know about that, what I understood from his statement is that:
"Sport mode overrides the manual switch. Even if I manually select loud without cutouts, turning on sport mode reactivates the cutouts."
sport mode on + pse off = loud with rpms cut outs
sport mode off + pse off = quite exhaust
sport mode on + pse on = loud with rpms cut outs
sport mode off + pse on = always loud
On my car (removed the brown cable); the exhaust is always on .. always loud regardless of sport button.

That's very James Bondish
. Mine is about 1/4 that size and literally under the rear spoiler switch. It's mounted upside down on the roof of the storage bin so it's completely hidden but easily activated by feel.
