from clk55 to Carrera S advise ?

Hi everybody !

I would like to have your advise on this please :

A very good friend of mine have a CLK55 (the latest before the 63) and he would like to change it for Carrera S, at this point it's a great choice (i will drive drive it ) but in a other hand he told me about comfort and noise inside the car, I have the chance to drive a 997 Carrera (not the S) and I was very surpise by the comfort and the silence of the car, when you drive cool it's like a GT.
So I would like to know your differents point of view on a Carrera S as my friend drive a lot on motorway he would like to know if the Carrera S i enough confortable and if there is too much noise when you cruise between 180 and 200 Km/h...

thank you

I just went from an S4 to a Carrera S and I have ZERO complaints about comfort and noise. The Carrera will require more attention while driving than a Merc, but it's a joy on the highway. To make things even better, I get about 24mpg during steady cruising.

I went from a '04 E55 with Kleemann upgrades to my 997 S. I am very happy as the 997 is much more of a drivers car. It is also surprisingly comfortable on long drives. The Benz may be a bit more compliant but comfort is not an issue in my mind with the S.

I found the S to be a bit more noisy than the E55. Shorter wheel base, 19's vs. 18's, lower to the ground, etc. will add a bit of noise but I'm used to it now and have no issues.

The CLK has no where near the HP or torque of the E but if you're friend is a "red light dragster" he may be disappointed. This is not the purpose of the 997. There are occasions where I miss the ferocious acceleration and torque of my E55 but that usually doesn't last too long. And if I start to really miss it, there's always the TT

thank you for all your comments

It's true that with the AMG's you have phenomal power and ferocious accelerations but I guess that with porsches you get a different style of driving, with Porsche's you and the car make one you feel the road and you go exactly where you want with it there is no compromise and all this in a great comfort with the latest generations of 911's. On the other hand I also think that the AMG's are fantastic car you have a little bit of everything in the same car but for pure pleasure I would definitely get a 997 S and I think that no one here will contradict me

see you

Well I have a c2 and a clk 350, clk is nice for relaxed driving, very quite, my c2 is basically to enjoy my drive and some tail wagging on the way to work
