short shifter/sport shifter

Does the factory short shifter simply shorten the throw like the B&M model or does it also change the shift firmness/feel like the RS shifter did for the 993 ? I'm totally happy with the 997S shift throw, but I would like it to be a bit notchier and firm...just seems a bit vague in stock form whereas in my 993 I was able to change the shifter lever and linkage to the RS giving much better feel and response.

it'll be close to the B&M feel but a bit smoother. it's actually made by B&M. from what u said i think u'll like it.

Paul S is infamous around these parts
fwiw, the sport shifter is no longer listed on porsche's build your own site. I have seen it as an option on a few '07's at the dealer though...

Well, I got the B&M shifter first, and it felt notchy. So I ordered the stock Porsche Short Shifter. It's way nice. It's what I recommend.

I love the factory short shifter. It feels very nice with no notchiness. Very smooth but still firm and not vague at all.

at least with the 996, aren't they the exact same thing with the OEM one being made by B&M? i've seen them side by side and they look identical other than the OEM one comes with that plastic housing already installed making install easier.

I think they are different now. They really HAVE to be from my experience. Two different feels totally. This OE one is wonderful. They do offer it in the cars and I have a hard time thinking that they use a redneck American company known for slapsticks in Novas... but... as I say alot... what do I know. I know it felt better, and I got them through the same shop. A Porsche dealer.

maybe they screwed up the install on the first go-around. they're very sensitive to adjustment. maybe whoever did it the second time got it right. i've read lots of posts about people who complained about their short shifter until it was properly adjusted.

who's got a pic of the two shifters? that should settle that... short shifters aren't exactly rocket science.

here's a shot of the B&M

i have the b&m in my car. it shifts fine. my installer (porsche dealer) had both and said i was wasting my money on the OEM one as they're the same product, relabeled at a much higher price. although maybe the 997 is different. at least for the 996, they look identical other than the color of the parts.

Sport shifter should be standard, its a Porsche.....
Ferdinand, we shouldnt have to pay, didnt you make a high performance car with all the bells and whistles included???

Anyways, I changed to the shortshifter, I like it better, quicker shifting, better feeling overall...I took B & M, Porsche said same company makes it, why pay more...You pay more for the words 'OEM' in this case.
