original poster-driving a Porsche is like being in your own world i have said many times. is it both the tangibles as well as the intangibles that all these guys are saying that make the car prob the best car(or at least one of the best, i happen to agree with the former(the best)) youll ever own. cgood luck and post pic when you buy.
If you're not wow-ed then don't buy it. Spending $100K on anything that doesn't wow you is a waste of money, big time. If you like the 'vette try a Z06 and be prepared to be raped by your friendly Chevy dealer. The M6 for sure is a great car as well. You might also consider a used Ferrari 355 or 360.
I'm on my 3rd 911 and can't imagine owning any other sports car at this competitor level. I like them because of the way they drive, the fact that they have balanced all round attributes, can be tracked very effectively and have a history that's second to none. They may not be the fastest in a straight line, but they're tough to beat over a challenging 4 mile road course.
But if none of that wow's you then walk away and find something that does.

997S>m6 tho.

You've compared high torque cars you've been driving to the 911 and that's where the underwhelmed feeling most likely came from. You need to rev the 997 to about 4k rpm's then nail it. Porsche's were never meant to be drag cars but road racers.

I looked at M3, M6, Z06 and Porsche. For me 6' 2", headroom was tight on M6, Vette. M3 cab, was not for me after seeing minimal cosmetic differences between it an a 330 cab. Same issue for Z06, besides being cheap plastic looking on the inside.
Porsche has handling that is incredible, different looking than most cars and probably the best sports car for the money. My recommendation, get the 4s. Its great in rain too. I would also get the tiptronic, given its a daily driver.
Hope this helps.

Just my opinion of course.
I respect your opinion. I drove both (C2S and C4S) and liked the 4 for control (even though its a bit heavier on the steering) and S for a bit more umph. I guess you don't like the 4 at all, not matter which body style.
I live in the NE, the 4 made sense since I plan to get winter tires for it - not for snow, but for cold wet, winter weather.

And I yours, especially if you drive in the snow, ice etc. That's what it's made for. Unfortunatly, you are in the minority of C4S owners. Have fun man...being out here in CA I make it a habit of taking my Porsche on a ski trip at least once a year just for the snow, and I'm a 2WD fan
Well I am in Miami FLorida where it snows ummmm...never and I went with a C4S. I test drove both cars and although the 4 seems heavier it sticks to the road like glue. Amazing handling and cornering. Yes I paid a bit more than an S but the rear end and handlling is worth it. Im from Miami, where rear ends are important...lol.
Leon - I guarantee you the regular C2S will turn faster lap times than a C4S. This topic has been debated to death over the years so I'm not going to say much more than this - most 911 owners have never even scratched the surface of the handling capabilities. If they had, the 4WD normally aspirated 911 would have never been produced. Why some may ask ? Because the limits of a 911 are far beyond the skill level of 99% percent of those who drive them.
Sorry for the rant - but that should tell the OP that for 100k you are getting the finest sports car ever built. Yes there are more exotic, but none can match the reliability, ease of use, driveability and performance of a 911 - especially the 997.

Valid points Crod, but performance is so close that driver will be the determinig factor if your referring to tracking the vehicle. In this case weight difference is less than 125 lbs, and top track speed 3 mph. Not a significant difference as lets say comparing a CS/C4S to a TT. To be honest my car is not a daily driver, nor do I drag around the streets of Miami (car is not ment for that). I will take it out to the Homestead race track where you can test the limits of your car, and I have done so with my last several cars.
