What am I getting for 100K, please advise.

I have been browsing the forum the past few months anticipating leasing
an '07 Carrera S. I went on three test drives from local dealers the past month. The car, with the options I want, stickers anywhere from 97-100K.
Although I like the car alot I am not "wow-ed" by it. The car seems to handle great but is not nearly as fast as I thought it would be. (Comparing it to an '02 Z06 and '05 Viper I used to own.) I would just like to get opinions from some guys who own an S. Are there some 'intangibles' about the car that could only be realized after driving these cars on a daily basis? Is the aero kit too low for a daily driver? Lease on my 545i is up and my dealer is pushing an M6. Thank in advance.

as a porsche owner, i would definitely say a C2S is a great choice. you may not be "wow-ed" by it yet, but you will!! a TT is guaranteed to do the job, but at a big price jump.

on the hand, M5 is a good choice if you liked your 5 series. and the M6 is also an awesome car if you can like the appearance.

RS4 is another great option. well made and a great powerful/handeling car. you will also save some money too.

to summarize, get the 997S...

good luck.

For that amount you'll be getting a car that can do everything quite well. It's not as fast as an M6 but it drives and corners beautifully and with alot of balance and poise. You might not be "wowed" by the experience at first but the more you drive it, the more you'll begin to appreciate it. It has a charm all of its own, a charectaristic, missing from the M6 IMHO.

Thanks for the input guys. I was at the dealer this week and saw an '07 S with and without the aero kit side by side on the showroom floor. The S with the aero kit is a real head turner. Front spoiler though sits pretty low to the ground. Does anyone with the kit have trouble scrapping as a daily driver. I'll be taking the car everywhere (work, gym, grocery store etc.....).

I just picked up my C4S on Thursday...I also drove the M5/6. Didn't like the car, the power yes, the car no. The M6 has some design flaw that I can't put my finger on (the front/rear tail etc.) You should look into the C4S for that kinda money. Expect to pay the the low to mid $1,500 with around five out of pocket. Good luck and you will appreciate the Porsche when you have it, I can't stop driving mine......

OK...a few days ago a saw a blue C2S with the aerokit and it seemed very close to the ground and I saw it was passing through a very bad piece of road with holes ( I was on the opposite side of the road so I saw its reaction pretty well!! ) it didn't went so close to the asphalt. Hope it helps
Listen to me...get it!!

I scrape the ground all the time and I don't have the aerokit. I would suggest not getting it. The aerokit will be particularly troublesome on angled driveways.

Sure the 997S is not as fast as some of those other cars you mentioned. But it's an incredible car at the limits. That's where the 997S really shines. It will take you a while and a lot of ***** to find the limit in this car. Each time I push to a new level the car amazes me. And I've been driving a 911 for 10 years. You can do things in this car that you just cannot do in those other cars.

I have to agree, I am going back and forth with buying a 997S. If I where you, look at a used 996tt. I think you have an opportunity to be "wowed" but with the huge depreciation the 996s have had, you could find one at a reasonable price, south of what you are looking at to spend on the 997.

If you do buy/lease a 997, get the aero.

I too use to own a C5 Z06 and went to a 997S recently(aerokit).. If you like to drive hard, accelarate, and have fun with the car by driving the sh*t out of it, then the 997 isnt for you. I pretty much use it as a DD, although the aero kit makes it very low its not as bad as everyone says, drivways are your only concern and in some places it will be unavoidable to scrape it. Its not a big deal though, you can replace the front lip about every 6 months or so.

I have accepted the fact that (well at least for me) that the 997 will never be as fast or as fun to drive then my Z06.. After I purchased the car I have stoped speeding and have dramatically reduced even flooring the car. keeping it as a cruiser; about to put on some TA body parts and some nice HRE's, cruise sunset and get about 10 times more looks from girls then I did with my Z06. Bottom line is that the whole feel of the car in general(stability, handling, refinment, luxery, pimpstatus, etc...), is better on the porsche, but as far as pure adrenaline rush, in my oppinion, Z06 was better.
(I dont regret my choice at all though, a porsche is a porsche after all.)

One other comment I would make is that the 997S is faster than you think. But you just don't get the same sensation of speed as those other cars because the suspension is so well set up. You might think you're going 65 and look down and you're really doing 90.

yeah I noticed that also. The car is just built so well. and the power delivery is very smooth.
