Discolored white 997S???
Discolored white 997S???
I am looking at a 2006 997S in white that has about 5000 miles. It has a clear bra in the front that looks perfect. In front of the rear wheels on the body there is what appears to be a protective film on the paint. This film is somewhat discolored and looks a little yellow. When I pointed this out to the dealer their response was we will just remove this and it will look just like new. Is this a reasonable solution? I suppose this area is protected because of rock chips so by removing this film wouldn't it be more likely to get messed up? Is this film standard or an option? Seems like most cars at the dealership had this. Anyone else have issues with white color and this discoloration. Sorry so long but if I am going to buy my first 911 I want it to be as perfect as possible.
Thanks for any responses.

If they remove the discolored film, make sure they put new film back on. The film is there to protect the front of the rear fenders from rocks thrown up by the front wheels esp during cornering. It really does help, when I have the top down on my cab, I can occasionally hear rocks pinging off the rear fenders.
if you happen to take them off make sure they put a new one in.
if it yellowed then it's probably some non-good brand.
I def. suggest putting ventureshild as that is the only film in the market with lifetime warranty againt fading (*to my knowledge).
More so i have seen white cls with them yellowing, don't get why within a year or two.

factory uses ****ty film. all films turn yellow from time to time & u'll notice it the most on white car. better film will last longer. u can have them replaced often if u prefer.

Many are like this when the car is new, on the lot. Here in AZ I couldn't believe how ugly yellow the film was on all of the white cars that had sun exposure. Maybe it was the sun, maybe just came that way, but regardless I won't be buying a white car unless that film is replaced.

that part should not cost more than 50$ in film and no longer than 20 mintues to install (that's even for a bad installer. If you were local i would happily do it for less than 80$ with lifetime warranty installed.
Seriously, if the dealer can't swallow that little of an amount. that SALE should be cancelled. Walk away from that car and the dealership.
