I agree, secondly the cam could be worth some decent power. My guess is that it may be 365-375 at the crank. Thats about as much as you can get NA from an M3. That coupled with the 4.10 is about as quick as you can make an M3 without going FI.

It depends on which cams you get for the M3. The Schrick 272 cams are worth at best 7-8rwhp, while the 282/292 cams are worth a tad more at the expense of low end. Its just so expensive to do cams in the M3 it really isn't worth it..cams and followers are $2k and then the install.

That being said..you can't dog out a M3, it does make more hp per litre than even the 997S with its 3.8L engine. I would love to see what a fully tuned S would run though. BTW, Lee Rutter ran a 12.74 in a bone stock m3 and he wittled that down to 12.4's with a CAI, 4.10's and software and lighter wheels and tires.

Dave
the thing about the 12.74 was it was at 107 mph. a stock 997 (non s) traps 109-110 bone stock with a 12.8-12.9. and he ran a 12.3 or 12.4 but at 111. i mean thats good for an m3 but that wont even keep up with a stock 997S as we saw. and yes, hp per liter on it is great! two great cars either way, thanks for sharing the video.

yeah i do know that stock M3's are no comparison, but with the fuss going on with numerous M3 boards about a stock M3 being able to beat a stock 997S is pretty pathetic

Yeah that M3 is pretty cool..Hes got the whole CSL kit going on(like 90 percent of other "modded" M3's), hes got full suspension mods and did prtty much everything he can to his car for performance while keeping it NA.. with all this done to his car i would still have to say a 997s looks sexier in stock form and performs better... So when people bring up the argument about how the 997S is way more expensive blah balh, when you take it all into perspective, this guy put enough money in his car to be equivalent to the price of a base 997S and the 997s still performs better and looks sexier.

I have only seen a little of it, and the people who post it are usually brought down to earth by other members.

He (Lee Rutter) actually got down to a 12.3 @112mph but with skinnies...looked freaky Lee was a former Mustang drag racer that was running low to mid 13's in a 88 5.0L LX when everyone else was barely in the low 14's. Lee drove BHS's car to a 12.2 @114mph with high compression and 8800rpm. Car would have gone quicker but the car was wheel hopping like crazy, but the car was making 400hp.

Did you see the Road and Track article..They got the Carerra S to put down some serious numbers

Most of the mods are cosmetic other than the engine mods which really add up to about 8-10K, when you consdier that a base M3 can be had for under $50k and add in the mods, you still come out way under even a base 911. Don't get me wrong I'm a convert, I'm getting my S hopefully at the end of Feb. or early March, but the M3 really is a sweet spot deal for the money and there really is no replacement out there currently at its price point. The car seats 4 very comfortably and it has a decent trunk. When ever I have to compare the two its like this; an M3 is a road car that can also tear up a track, while the 911 is a track car that is also good on the road. The 911 is a less compromised car than the M3 in performance and the first clue in this is the weight. Right off the bat S's are almost 300lbs. lighter, I actually think the M3 has the advantage as far as engine sophistication but there is no replacement for displacement (3.2L vs. 3.8L).

Congrats on getting the 997S Dave. I've seen srtswper's (Allen's) 997S, no doubt it is an incredible machine, Allen is a cool cat as well.

I've been one of those proud M3 owners, but definently try and keep things realistic on the M3 forums when they are compared to a 997S, as a the S is very difficult for an M3 to run with, even with all the bolt on's and to beat it you'd need FI or the BHS Hi Comp. kit, even then I'd still rather have the 997S.

Anyway a P-car should be doable in the near future for me as well, meanwhile the M keeps me very happy. Again nice upgrade Bro.

Myself, along with Allen and a few more enthusiasts are possibly planning a caravan up to Famoso in March, you wanna tag along?

I was reffering to every mod he put on including cosmetic,, He started out with a brand new 05 ZCP which i thinks starts at a little over 50 and im sure he spent around 20 k for everything, that includes his bbs LM's, full coil over suspension with sway bars, vorsteiner csl body kit,(engine performance, full exhaust, gears, ssk), and labor... Plus all the times his car f'cked up cause of his mods and had to pay to get it fixed... I think this puts his car at a comparable price range to a 997S.

Yea, he def put up some SERIOUS numbers for his m3, its sick! the 997S is def capable of SERIOUS numbers as well. the avd trap for a bone stock 997S is 112-113 and prob the best drivers could wring out a 114. even a bone stock 997 (non-S) will trap 110-111 mph.
