As an owner of a M3 now with pretty much the exact same mods I wasn't surprised. The main thing is the 4.10 gears really take advantage of the 8K rpm, or 8100 rpm in my case. Mind you between the exhaust, intake and diffy mods there is over 10k in parts and labor. I would like to see this again against a S with a full Fab,AWE setup or such with software..then it would be interesting. Either way props to MLiner..he was a regular on M3forums..

Hey thats me.. one mod I forgot to mention on the M3's mod list was CAMS..Ans when this race took place my car was not fully broken in. The outcome actually suprised most people , they would all say that a fully NA M3 can take down a 997S no problem but i guess i proved them wrong..I actually walk him pretty easily now with the giac and the bypass pipes installed on my car....

Heres a vid after i got GIAC software and the bypass pipes installed...both runs are a 2nd gear roll at about 40 mph...I also had a passenger and the M3 had no passengers.. I later did another run with him after he got a vanos tune in which he gained around 15whp midrange and 8 whp peak hp, and i put about 2 cars on him from a 3rd gear roll.

I guess I was overestimating a fully modded M3. They seemed pretty even.

I have the fabspeed muffler bypass pipes.. Great mod, not only did it make the sound of the car amazing, but added some performance, mainly becuase of the all the weight that was taken off the car (50 + lbs) plus some hp. All for only 300 bucks.

I have the muffler bypass pipes which do not touch the cats at all.. And loud might be an understatment. lol.. I love the sound very much though but its not for everyone.

It was expected, from seeing what the M3s mods were.

This should prove the 997S would and should be able to beat a stock M3 though.

997S vs. M3 is a no brainer despite what some M3 guys will say about their 'run ins'. Im impressed with the M3 though running with the stock 997S, its not easy or cheap to make them do that + considering the price point overall and the back seats thats pretty cool in fact.

I have a dozen friends with stock M3's. they are no comparison. the main mod that shows the most significant improvement on an M3's performance is the 4:10 gearing.

Exactly...4.10's woke my car up. The exhaust helps and such but as you say it was the 4.10's that offered the most improvement. That being said..you can't dog out a M3, it does make more hp per litre than even the 997S with its 3.8L engine. I would love to see what a fully tuned S would run though. BTW, Lee Rutter ran a 12.74 in a bone stock m3 and he wittled that down to 12.4's with a CAI, 4.10's and software and lighter wheels and tires.
