I don't know what percent of owners participate in track stuff, my guess would be way less than 50%. I've seen 10-15% in print, but I have no real data. It sounds like you may be getting the urge to try it. I highly recommend one of the DE events sponsored in your area by PCA, BMWCCA, etc. Ask around and find out which clubs have the best reputations for a real safety focus. There are also some organizations that allow open tracking, without instruction. I would not recomend those, both for practical and insurance considerations. And check with your insurance agent for coverage while participating in a DE school. Racing is completely different; bring lots of money and forget insurance.

Interesting discussion. Among 6speed memebers, I'm sure the number is like 80-90% (have done it or want to do it), but among Porsche owners in general I would guess 40 or so?

You're obviously very competitive or you'd drive a Chevy (no, not that one) or a Toyota.

Attend a driver education day and you'll learn enough on the first day to bring out the competitive monster in you!

Doesn't Chevy make a car called the Corvette, and Toyota has a F1 team.

Sorry, I guess the "you'd drive a Chevy (no, not that one)" part was too subtle.

Remind me again though, what street performance car does Toyota offer?
And don't say Supra, that was long ago and far away.

I'm a member of Palmetto Motorsports Club at CMP (Carolina Motorsports Park). It's basically like a golf club membership, only it revolves around tracking your car.

We get 4 or 5 track days per month which I attend. We also get access to other amenities such as professional coaching and skid pad time as well as twenty some guest driving passes.

The cost of tracking a 996TT 4 to 5 times per month is pretty stiff. I spend at least $1800/month on Michelin Cups. Brake Pads about every month. Rotors about every other month. Brake fluid and Oil change at least once per month (Mobil 1 and Castrol SRF). Not sure the exact number here, but once you calculate things such as fuel (not even counting the $6.80 100 octane track fuel), I'm guessing I average around $2500-$2700 per month on tracking. (This number does NOT include the cost of annual Club membership)

oh ****. Why did I just do the above calculation???

Doc Dan, You da man! How's everything?

Yeah. I'm a trackwhore too, right beside Dan. I've actually found it to be MUCH more expensive, because I keep putting better stuff on my car.

Here's how mine looks now:

This car is a street car. Just read my sig to see how addictive this sport can get.

My name is Jared, and I'm a trackaholic.

Hey Jared, I take it you are back from Switzerland? When are you coming down to Sebring for a track day? Since you were gone I traded in the black 997S convertible for a white coupe.
