Ah man. That's great about getting into a coupe. It looks sweet in your avatar.

Actually, I'm in Switzerland right now, about to drive to Zurich and flying to Thailand today. Won't be back until the end of July.

Whew. See you soon, kinda!

My tale of WO ($$$) and how I became a track “ho”!!!

I had thought about it from time to time but never acted on it … and now live in an area close to great venues.

How it started … last year I bought a GT3 (aka … rocket ship) which really has no place on the street and I quickly saw it wouldn’t be long until I was “under” the jail house … so off to the track I went, 1st with my 993 awaiting proper break-in of the GT3 … “hooked”. Didn’t take me long to realize it would be like Russian roulette thinking I could count on always driving home what I drove to and at the track … so of course a trailer was needed … “oh honey, if I get a nice open trailer I can use the Cayenne to pull it and won’t need to buy a truck too” … so proceeded to order a custom aluminum trailer. Get the GT3 to the track and had another awakening … at +/- 150mph the standard safety equipment wouldn’t cut it … well it would likely cut me in half, literally. To digress slightly … I wanted an ’08 GT3 but when the limited allotment was announced, I like many scrambled to see what I could find. And the one I found and bought had already been spec’d. and built for someone who did take delivery on it … and it was loaded, including $4k in yellow stitching to match the ceramics … so once I priced the roll bar, seats, harnesses etc I was looking at a small fortune (and probably just the start) … not to mention chopping up a real beauty the way it was decked out.
The verdict … I decided to sell the GT3 (at a bit of a loss) and bought a low mileage ’06 997 Carrera S and have had a complete conversion done on it over the winter for the track, waiting on one last part and my maiden voyage is schedule for about 3 weeks from now. Oh … and guess what … for many reasons an open trailer won’t do for this car … so off to sell my trailer (another loss) and buy a closed one … which many tell me the Cayenne has the power, but is too small to handle with wind effects etc. of a closed trailer … so maybe a truck in coming as well. So there you have it … my first year and expensive learning curve.

Opps … forgot to mention having to build another garage as well!!!

What's wrong with the open trailer??? I tow my 997S to the track on an open Featherlite 3110 using my Cayenne and have never had problems???

Nothing wrong with an open trailer and I love mine, the Cayenne handles it with ease and is much easier to work with since most of the time I am going to the track alone. However, the pics here are of my 997 before the soon to be completed transformation ... the car has been completely stripped of any possible weight including the driver/passenger windows and door guts not to mention the weather stripping on the sunroof is has been removed and the the sunroof bolted down to keep it from blowing due to air pressure. So the car is completely vulnerable to weather during track nights and on the road, not to mention easily broken into at a motel or even the track ... hence the need for a closed trailer. I have seen some pulled by Cayennes, but I have talked to a few that have tried and they didn't like it ... the Cayenne has plenty of power, but not enough "***" and wheel base to handle the wind forces on the trailer. Believe me ... I love my open trailer, built to my specs, but I am afraid it must go

... and before you or somone goes there ... a car cover is not an option ... no good for security and to put it on a track dirty car and runnin down the road at 70 mph will just scratch the you know what out of it.

Yeah. I'm a trackwhore too, right beside Dan. I've actually found it to be MUCH more expensive, because I keep putting better stuff on my car.

Here's how mine looks now:

This car is a street car. Just read my sig to see how addictive this sport can get.

My name is Jared, and I'm a trackaholic.
Hey Jared ... don't know if or when you will see this now that you are off to Thailand, but saw your car up at the shop a couple of months ago when I stopped by to check on my "build".
If you are wondering who I am ... check the pic in the post above, you bought those tires on the trailer off me last year at VIR when you had an unexpected immediate need

Not that you would, but if you send a PM don't expect a reply soon as among other things here I am not allowed to send a PM back until I have at least 15 legit posts. Geez ... this forum is a lil "tight" ... I tried to join several times last year and they kept telling me my email address was illegal, I sent email to the admin only to have sent back as undeliverable and now that I am here it seems I need certain numbers of posts to view pics, send PM's and other things ... not to mention 100 posts to sell anything, like I said in another post, it must be a National Security thing!!!

Good luck and be safe in your travels and look forward to seeing track side later this season!!!
