A while back someone posted on Roadfly 997 that they had pulled away from an E55 AMG on the road. Like other 997s owners with a Car and Driver subscription, I rolled my eyes. Recently I noticed a Merc tailgating me into a long decreasing radius onramp. In second gear I went in 2 cars ahead and came out maybe 3 cars ahead. No surprise. I wound out second, hit third and waited to be passed. It didn't happen. At 6k and climbing in fourth I glanced in the rearview to see the Merc maybe 6 lengths behind. I pulled into the right lane, tapped the brakes, and he roared pass. E55 AMG was what I read. What this means in the grand scheme of things I have no idea. I would however caution anyone who makes assumptions about real world automobile performance based on hp #'s and hype that things are not always as they seem to be. I will be keeping my Porsche thank you

Unlike most here I've actually owned an E55 (an 06) and now a 07 997S; the E55 will beat a 997S in the Q/M, from a rolling start, 30-60 and 60-90 all day long...end of story.

Thank you for your input, but obviously given a winding road and a knowledgable driver that is NOT always correct. Drag racing will of course favor the high torque automatic transmissioned ride. Judging by your knee jerk you must be missing that in your current car. Sorry

It's quite obvious to most everyone here a Porsche 997S will out handle the heavier and more comfort oriented E55 sedan in most every circumstance. What I do miss is the 516 lb ft of torque in the E55 not to mention it's 469hp and would welcome it in my 6 speed manual 997S anyday. Unforunately from these so called I beat the other guy/my car was faster than the other guy's threads is we rarely ever have facts or input from the other guy; like was he really trying, was his suspension in sports mode 2, were his kids in the car, was he running the crappy stock Conti tires or did he do like so many E55 owners and switch to Pilot Sport 2's, did he have a full tank of fuel etc etc etc...just way too many unknows to draw any true conclusions from.
I think your statement in your original post sums up that post best: "What this means in the grand scheme of things I have no idea"; and I couldn't agree more.

That's for sure . Would I trade my 07 997S back for the E55 or even a new E63? No, as the 997S is just too much fun to drive...just wish it had more torque and power; maybe one day the 997TT will be in the garage

In my experience if "the other guy " is driving stick he has missed a shift. If automatic, he wasn't really trying. The point is that on that day, under those circumstances, given those drivers, it happened as described. I would attribute this to the higher speed I carried out of the corner and no more than that. If this gives you a case of cognitive dissonance, feel free to roll your eyes.
