Thumbs down do you run nitrogen in your tires

I took delivery of a targa4s (pics to follow) a couple of weeks ago. While changing the tire lug bolts to match the black wheels, the specialty tire company (Butler Tire of Atlanta) suggested to put nitrogen in place of stanard air. They say the tire runs cooler and gives about 10% more wear. Any body else put nitrogen instead of air. Cost lis $40 by the way.

A lot of people use nitrogen for track days, because it doesn't expand anywhere near the amount that compressed air does when it heats up. Look up a thread by Esemes, he had a company come to his house to fill his tires with nitrogen.

Not if you watch your air pressure. If you are one of those people who never do, than it's a great idea because an underinflated tire will wear faster. Nitrogen holds it's pressure much better over time and is a lot less resistant to temperature fluctuations than oxygen is.

black lug bolts

My car is mist olive. The wheels came with the chrome lug bolts. Porsche does not make black lug bolts. Butler Tire had a supplier that makes the correct size of black anodized lug bolts-cost about 6$ per bolt. Looks better then what came on the color matched wheels I had bought.

I run helium in my tires. It makes the car feel a bit light though.

Does the exhaust note have a higher pitch to it too?

Actually, passenger cars is where Nitrogen belongs. The molecules are so big, they tend not to leak out at all - so in theory when you set the car to OEM pressures with Nitrogen, the pressure should stay there... forever...

They gave me Nitrogen with my 997S without asking if I wanted it. I won't let it out and start over, but it doesn't thrill me for the track. I'm always adjusting based on the day, how many lefts vs. rights, etc. Usually, I'm off balance left to right significantly, so the 1st track day with this car, I'm going to let out on one side and then when I go back to street, I'll be low there.

I asked my dealer "so, do you have Nitrogen-in-a-Can so I can adjust pressures" and he laughed and said "just bring the car in". I can't be bothered to go in after every track day...

As for it holding pressure better - I don't see it at all on the street. 33/39 cold became 37/43 warm with just street driving (65 degrees and sunny). So, if they went up 4 psi on the street, that's no better than regular air.
