OEM 6 Piston Brakes

I'm thinking of adding the OEM Porsche 6 piston calipers and larger discs (350mm) to my 997S (front only). I believe these are the same brakes as on the GT3. Anybody done it? Thoughts?

Why would you need to up the piston count except for the bling factor? If you are going to track it enough to need it, then get PCCB or a set of big Brembos.

(I would get it for the bling factor too... )

I just bought a set of 6piston yellows on the front and 4 piston yellows on the rear with 350MM rotors on all four corners from Kevin at Ultimate Motorwerks. These are direct bolt ons for my 01 turbo, as for a 997S you would have to ask.. The kit with 4 rotors and calipers was 3995 for all OEM Porsche items.

I just researched this with a variety of folks. After driving a 997TT with the 6 piston front calipers, I decided to upgrade at least my front brakes. They make a big difference and have better pedal feel even compared to the 997S set up. I talked to folks about both the OEM 6 piston kit and the Brembo kit. The OEM Ceramics list for $17K aftermarket, but can be found for about $12K which is still more than I wanted to spend. I didn't look at Stoptech or other options, though they are out there.

I ordered and have recevied, but not yet installed a set of Brembo 6 piston calipers with 2 piece 380 mm rotors. I also ordered braided stainless steel brake lines for the back to compliment the ones that come with the front Brmebo kit. The Brembo's are lighter than the OEM rotors, are a full floating design and have alloy hats that won't rust like the OEM one. I'm wating for my Bilstein PASM enabled coilovers to do both installs at the same time at Imagine Auto. I'll post some phhotos of the finished project and let post a driving impression.

After my recent near miss situation (see link), I feel like a little more stopping power would be a good thing.

stom_m3 is infamous around these parts
UBoat - Going to a larger rotor will not help you stop faster. The limiting factor becomes your tire grip. The 350mm rotors can/will clamp hard enough for any situation. Porsche brakes have always been the best in the business. The larger rotor/more pistion combo will possibly provide better feel. I personally would be worried about matching the front/rear brake bias if you leave the rears stock. Depending on the situation, this could make trail braking more difficult.

Of course that said, I have the PCCB's and thoroughly enjoy them but I would be just as confident without them.

steve

ps. A great benefit though is no dust! The wheels never get dirty. It's GREAT!

Not sure that's correct. At higher speeds the extra gripping power will surely help. As to balance, Porsche uses the same 6 in the front, 4 in the rear combo on the GT3 so I don't know why it wouldn't work on a regular old 997S.
