Wow those are some very impressive power gains, its not even on an FI car, that was my main thought when Deputydog posted his gains on the forums. I thought it would only be worth it on an FI car and not an NA. Although not a 997 its still a pretty good source of proof that us 997 guys might also get some good gains.

I read it, and then I saw the dyno graph. It really is only 7rwhp gain at peak but at the delta to get a 28rwhp gain is impressive. I wish people would take the car to the track though...if the MPH gains a few then I would really believe it.

Looks pretty simple, couldn't you just machine or fabricate a triangular shaped slug, center it in the stock piece and see similar gains?

Risky. It thought the same thing and just superglue it or design it so it notches in.

it's more complicated than that. the RSS pieces uses a much smoother angle. the stock piece is a straight 90. the stock one is too harsh to match the performance of the RSS plenum.

I agree the price is way out of line. I was really going to do this mod because I have done a mod like this before on some Vette's I've owned. Then I saw the price and for the power difference it was not worth it. I'll wait because there is someone else coming out with this mod for way less than half the price for that little piece of aluminum.

They're certainly not giving them away, but I think the price is reasonable.

mufflers, $1500, zero HP
ECU, $1500, maybe 10 rwhp
intake, $600, maybe 5 rwhp
plenum, $1000, 20 rwhp max and 10 rwhp peak

nobody complains about the pricing of the other mods, yet they yield very little hp. i think we can agree that it probably doesn't cost a small fortune to manufacture this piece. however, after talking to Greg at RSS, there was quite of bit of development that went into the plenums. Not to mention you have the pcar factor. let's face it, if there as many pcars as hondas running around and modding, i'm sure the aftermarket tuners could afford to lower the margins and go for volume. that's not the case for the pcar community. i'm sure the margins for all these products have to be decent for it to be worth their while to bring a product to market when they will sell so few pieces comparatively.

I'm not bagging the plenum but damn it's price is way over and above for what it really is. How much R&D really goes into a Y piece of pot metal casting? We are not talking internal engine parts and mods here. These type of things have been around for all sorts of cars for years and years. Yep there is the p-car factor and the prices for the other mods are up there too! That is how Fabspeed can sell a 8" piece of silicone hose for well over $200! I did the muffler mod but only for the sound. You got that right...the p-car factor!

see ya, Mike
